THX Ultra 2 Subs

I know that this system requires you use the klipsch KA1000 thx. But why? Is this only to make sure you have the THX2 certification? Could an inuke amp not drive 4 of these or a pair? I understand the signal path wouldn't be THX2 certified but it would sound great? I have thought about looking for the subs for cool fall project.  Looking at the spec of the THX subs they are 8 ohm perfectly capable to be driven by the inuke or your amp of choice.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff,

I know you know that you do not have to use the KA1000 to drive those subs.  An Inuke, Beringer, Crown, etc. all would work with the THX subs as long as you match the power properly.  Heck you could properly use your Anthem amp and an X-30 crossover to drive at least two of them.

Let the subwoofer separates guys chime in with a proper amplifier match recommendation.

yeah i think its really just a power match up and hp/lp filter thing. they know exactly what the amp is powering so they can tailor it to it. inuke would drive them just as good if not better as you can eq more than what the thx amp allows and they are much cheaper.

This should have been titled THX ultra 2 vs DIY. That was my mistake.  I am looking toward a fall project that will allow me to add some bass to the living room and possibly move the PB ultra somewhere else. The amp will be the same Inuke 6000DSP but would you choose 2 SI HST 18's these look sick and have crazy motor travel. Or two THX ultra 2 subs? Power being the same so that variable is constant. Please understand the only sub I am using in the living room right now is the PB ultra 13. Thanks guys I hope this one has some good feedback

Each room is going to be a bit different. My friend has a DIY vented 18" sub with an iNuke 3000 dsp and it sends out quake type waves that are awesome for movies. My Ultra 2 subs send a rumble through the floor that is quite nice but also has the cheek flapping ability and precision that is scary. It seems to me that the Ultra 2's are somewhere in the middle of the large 18" vented enclosure and the nice tight accurate RSW-15 but quite a bit louder than both. Basically the Ultra 2's do better for music than the 18 but not as good as the RSW-15. The Ultra 2's do better for movies than the RSW-15 but not as good as the single 18. Hope this helps, good luck!
