Guest Steven1963
I'm pulling out the old fiberglass insulation that was used in the Frazier speakers I bought as part of the refurbish but I don't know what/where to get quality replacement insulation...or even if that is the correct term to use. Anybody have good online source or something I could use from the local hardware store?
wvu80
Is the speaker sealed or ported? In general, I think foam for ported, polyfil for sealed. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Poly-Fil-100-Premium-Polyester-Fiber-Fill-50-oz-bag/17808670 http://www.parts-express.com/acoustic-eggcrate-foam-2-pcs-1-1-2-x-12-x-12-for-speaker-enclosures-only-non-ul--260-526 Is this fiberglass loose or attached to the box? I know there are a LOT of fiberglass type insulation. The latest buzz in insulation seems to be the denim type. http://www.lowes.com/pd_332024-1410-CF55___?Ntt=insulation+denim&UserSearch=insulation+denim&productId=3228226 If you want to try something local for insulation, try a business that re-covers sofas. They usually have a lot of foam options, like the kind of thing you would find in a foam pillow. Edited June 30, 2015 by wvu80
moray james
steve if the fiberglass looks to be solid leave it be. If it is disintegrating get it out. The very best available (special order) will be Owens Corning 700 series you want the greatest absorption over the widest bandwidth possible I think 703 or 704 I can't remember off the top of my head so here is a good link for you to check. http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm Best regards Moray James. Guest Steven1963
Great ideas thanks for the reply. The fiberglass seems to be fine, but I absolutely HATE it. It's stapled in for the most part. Any work I've been doing inside the cabinets requires gloves and that's just not what I want in there anyway. Love the egg crate idea but I'll keep my options open until I get to that point. teknoid
When I built a pair of Cornscalas I lined the inside of the cabinets with two layers of this: http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-656/Paper-Cushioning/Cellulose-Wadding-Roll--12-x-175?keywords=S-656%20Cellulose%20Wadding%20Roll%2012%22%20x%20175%27 Worked very well and easy to work with. Guest Steven1963
I assume one box did both speakers? 175 feet is alot and for that price it is definitely a contender.
teknoid
One box did both Cornscalas, a couple of pairs of Heresys, and I sold what was left over.
