KG 5.5 vs. KG 4.2 and potential tube amp match

I have a pair of KG 3 Signature Series, and a pair of 4.2's that I just upgraded with the Crites crossovers and tweeters. I am contemplating selling the KG 3's. They sound comparable to the 4.2's to me, minus the bass response.

There is a set of the 5.5's going for $395.00 near my area and I wanted to see what the major difference in the 5.5 is to the 4.2. How much difference is going to be in the SQ? Is it going to be only bass response or pretty much everything?

I have the 4.2's hooked up to a Yaqin MC10L Tube amp for my 2 channel (which I may also upgrade down the line) and if the 5.5's are worth it, will switch them into the 4.2's position. I'm assuming they will be a step up, but how much of a step up?

My other question is which tube amp would be best suited for the speakers.

I'm looking at different tubes for the amp I have now to see how much more I can open up the sound stage. The tubes that came with the amp were the Chinese tubes which I switched out to the generic Russian 6N1H version and the new Tung Sol Platinum EL34B's. It does sound different still from SS, but doesn't have the depth the other Chinese amp I have does. The issue there is not enough power for what I want. So I don't know if it's break in with the new tubes or the amp needs to have the bias recallibrated.I'm also looking into 6922, ECC88, 6DJ8, and 6N23P tubes as replacements. If that doesn't do it for me, then I am going to look for another amp. I have my set up as follows with 2 channel. My laptop with 44,000 songs through a Musicstreamer2 Dac to  the amp. 2 Dual turntables(506-1229) through 2 Cambridge Audio 551P phono pre's to the amp and out to the speakers.

Any info is appreciated

When the KG 5.5 was released it sat at the top of the KG line. My KG's had updated Bob Crites crossovers and diaphragms. I have never heard the 4.2 but my dad has updated a pair of 4.5. Comparing to two, the bass was deeper in the 5.5 with the added woofer. Amazing speakers that I would still own if it wasn't for my pursuit of increasing the number of heritage speakers I want to own.

The 5.5's are louder and are much more bass heavy than the 4.2. The KG's are nice and all but for $400 I'd hold out for a pair of Quartets or Forte's, the sound quality will easily surpass any of the KG speakers.

Agree.  Skip the 5.5's and go directly to Forte II.  Few bucks more, but well worth it.
