Bi-Amping La Scala's

Recommended Posts

Do you have an active crossover?

Seems to me you'd need an active to split between the midrange and bass bin, allowing the passive (if it will work correctly) to do the split between the midrange and tweeter.

Or, you could tri-amp if  you have more amps (and active crossover)

Do a search (here or on Google) for JubScala.  That is a bi-amped La Scala or La Scala II with a Jubilee tweeter (K402 or K510 horn with K-69A driver).  You'll also need an electronic crossover/processor.  The EV Dx38 is recommended.  It's also recommended to use matching 2-channel amps (or pairs of monoblocks) for both bass and treble, for consistent sound quality from the bottom to the top of the frequency range.

The speaker in my avatar is a 510 JubScala II.

The JubScala is a lower-cost (and smaller sized) version of the Jubilee.  While it does not quite equal the Jubilee in sound quality, it is a big improvement over the standard La Scala or La Scala II.

If you use the Heath on the mids and HF, a simple passive input filter will do what the stock crossover does. Just run the mids off the 8Ω tap, and use a 2µF cap to feed the tweeter off the 16Ω tap.

Run the woofers on the Ampex with a simple passive input filter.
