Max2
SS user here, but certainly not anti-tube. Would love to give a small power SET a try.
derrickdj1
I use both and like them both.
teknoid
Currently SS only on the main system but as a former tube user I'll be going back to tube amplifications as soon as I can. After voting I realized that I voted incorrectly. I do have an amp in my bedroom with a tubed front end. I guess i should have voted "both". swapface
I was both but just sold my tube amp. So, for now, SS.
jjptkd
I run SS but pretty much have liked all the tube products I've tried over the years. I see myself settling down with a nice tube integrated one day in at least one room.
Guest thesloth
I still don't think there is a "tube sound" because you can have tube gear engineered to have low distortion, high dampening factor (high enough to matter), high bandwidth etc...... Most of the time these amps are too clinical and don't have the "tube sound" people are looking for.. Okay so what is the "tube sound" ? Little to non existent dampening factor, high distortion, wooly bass. etc.... Some people don't even call them amplifiers but more like effect boxes. Some manufacturers sell tube buffers that add harmonic distortion to get that "tube sound" to your SS gear. Is this Hi-Fi? No. A perfect amp would just add gain and nothing else, that is high fidelity. Am I against "effect boxes"? No. Speakers are by far the biggest offenders in the chain. They add the most distortion, they have lumpy frequency response which is far from flat. I don't care as long as the music is playing and it sounds good!!! tromprof
Nothing against tubes but once I heard class D right there was no looking back.

Moderators dtel Posted August 5, 2015 Moderators Share Posted August 5, 2015 SS but like Max2 said "but certainly not anti-tube". This was funny...................... (wtf, you tube guys use whale oil and buggy whips too?)
minermark
SS handles the Bass, and fan rarely comes on. KT88s handle the MF/Highs, and always have a slight wind blowing on them.
