Hersey I HBR installation

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

First time poster here. I'm going to sound kind of dumb but here we go. My dad just gave me his old pair of Hersey I HBR speakers. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. Not a single scratch or dent. However, electronics isn't really my wheel house so I was hoping yall could suggest a nice receiver in the hopefully less than $300 range for me to hook it up to as well as maybe some pictures of the wiring (they don't have any wires which, for a millennial used to AUX cords, is confusing). I'm also hoping to get a record player to go with it. I have one now but it's cheap; record wobbles, arm is too light and skips frequently. So suggestion for a solid record player would be appreciated also. Will update as progress comes along!

Welcome to the world of Klipsch and this great forum.

Are you planning to use these for 2 channel music only or for TV also? If music only, then a good receiver or integrated amp will be sufficient. A receiver is a tuner (radio), pre-amp and amp, all in one. If you don't need a tuner, then an integrated amp will do.

My son uses a restored Harman Kardon 430 receiver to drive the Hersey speakers I gave him. Many here love the old H/K 430, 630, 730 & 930 receivers for Klipsch speakers. To purchase a used one and get it electronically refurbished would cost about $300 total, but it would be better than new and include a phono input.

I have several Technics SL-1500 direct drive turntables. They hold steady speed and are cosmetically good. I would sell one with a good cartridge mounted for $150 shipped to lower 48. Please send a PM if you're interested. Even if not interested in one of the TTs, send a PM and we can exchange contact info. I'd be happy to elaborate beyond the capabilities of the forum.

Welcome the forum.

Great score with gift from dad.

Great suggestions from Neil.

Also, take a look at www.accessories4less.com and check out some of the integrated amps from Yamaha, Marantz, and Onkyo.  Some will come in around $300.00.  Also from them an Onkyo TX-8050 which is the same stereo receiver as my Integra DTM-40.4 which I have powered both my Heresy I's and Heresy II's with great results.  Many features like networking, Pandora, preouts to add amp later, and subwoofer preout if you want to add later.

Where are you located?  Your local Craigslist can be your friend.

Good luck,

Bill

I would be using the speakers for 2 channel music only, so I guess just an integrated amp would be good since my music comes from either my iPad or the turntable

Just to clarify, the Onkyo TX-8050 is a stereo receiver with 80w/channel which is more than enough in my L13ft x W13ft x H10ft room, as well as my larger master bedroom where my DTM-40.4/Heresy II combo is located.

Is there a certain wattage or anything I should be looking for?

If a small to medium room, 60 to 80w/ch would be plenty.  Or go 100w/ch or more if headroom is what you are seeking.  I have driven my Heresy I's and Heresy II's with as little as 52w/ch with a vintage Marantz receiver and as much as 250w/ch with an Acurus A250 amp.  All sounded wonderful IMO.

Hey, thanks for all the great suggestions!

If you plan to spin vinyl, make certain that any integrated amp or receiver has a phono input.

Regarding wattage, your Heresy speakers are efficient.  Quality is more important than quantity when when it comes to power.  A clean 25 watts are better than 100 watts of distortion
