Dr Morbius
Can any one help me. I picked up a pair of Cornscala's about 9 or 10 months ago and found when I connected my refurbed HH Scott amp I found I had to turn the treble knob all the way up (+5 - where 0 is the norm and -5 is no treble) to get real sound out of it. At 0 position it sounds lifeless. I figured the amp had a problem so I left it at +5 to listen. I recently got another Scott amp and when I connected it up had the same prob. Eureka! So I opened the speakers up and set the adjustments to give a brighter sound for mids and tweets. After testing a slight improvement (+4 instead of +5) was found. So I have to ohmmeter the tweets to see what's up, I guess. So anyone know what the correct readings for the Selenium D220TI is? I included some pictures. Max2
Try taking the one jumper to -0 and the jumper on the other side to -6. Depending on the sensitivity of the mid will determine where you actually land on the mid attenuation. What tab is the jumper on the other side set to? jjptkd
I wonder if tweeter placement is part of the issue as I notice its mounted in the center of the cabinet instead of up high near ear level. Is the Eminence woofer part of the original build? Is it 8ohm or 4ohm? Maybe the woofer is playing too loud. Other than that I'd have to assume its a crossover problem as I find it hard to believe that a mammoth tweeter like that would have any problem keeping up. Good luck sorting it all out! Max2
Your tweeter is in align with the mid. You're going to have to find a sweet spot for the pair. That Faital mid may be over powering the tweet and the woofer. What number is the blue jumper set on? I cant see that side of the Crossover. babadono
Dr Morbius, It looks like there is in fact an ALK resistive L Pad tweeter attenuator on that speaker as wdecho pointed out. What is it set to? Hopefully you don't say it is already set to zero. http://www.alkeng.com/pad.html Edited August 19, 2015 by babadono
Dr Morbius
Update: yes it's set to zero and after much swapping amps and crossovers I found out the crossovers are set up wrong so I sent them off to Daves Fastlane and hopefully get them back corrected. (I'm sure I will, he's a great guy). Edited August 23, 2015 by Dr Morbius
Dr Morbius
New update: Just got crossovers back from Daves Fastlane Audio and there's a 2,000% improvement in the sound! Seems Dave almost completely rebuilt the crossovers and the proof is in the pudding. A real stand-up guy. Just tested the newly remastered Electric Light Orchestra CD's and they never sounded better!!! A happy camper here!
Arash
I like the sound of D220Ti. it's a good driver for the money but I prefer CP-25 which is smoother and easier to listen to. after all Faital Pro HF108 with 18Sound XT120 horn is the best hon tweeter I've heard under $1K

You get what you pay for.
