justinsweber
I was asked by a customer for a 2way and then he decided to go another route. I can never seemto leave surplus parts alone. Motor baords are from Bob Crites, Crossovers are ALK. I ran some numbers with Bassbox pro, and decided I could safely shrink the cab and so it go a haircut of ~1.5" Ryan Moses built the cabs and did the bracing for the back panel. In hind sight we should have sealed the back panel. We installed thread certs which seems to have added some regidity. Voicing was done wiht pink noise and then checked with a scratch paper. Kappa 15C 4ohm ~98db (Bhaves more like 96db when measured.), HF140 8ohm ~109db. I set the crossover at -12db and sound really good. (Im decidedly in the 2way camp). The cornwall box definitly benifits from additional bracing. My wife likes the smaller cab though she says any cornwall is too big.

justinsweber
Though it does not use my perfered HF section... it sounds fantastic! The HF140 is a great driver and doesnt use the stupid adapter. Bracing really makes this thing harmer too. I bought a Emotiva 100A as a factory 2nd for demoing speakers in the garage. It comes in today... 50watts of SS fun should be a blast to listen to. (I plan to give it 3-5days of constant playing to break it in. SS amps are fantastic for breaking in spakers :-). justinsweber
As an aside... Bob Crites Kit (which this was based on is really amazing.) Bob are you planing to do a 3 way version with the Faital tweeter lens?
Schu
Three way... three way... three way... yay!
Bossman
Another job well done Justin. How do they sound compared to the 3 ways?
justinsweber
I had a buddy over tonight and I realized my ears were not a closely in tune as they should have been. (Garage listening is not the best place to voice something.) With Petes suggestion I moved the auto former form -12 to -15... less then/less forward. How do the sound, really really good. On the horns, I am wholly satisfied, but they are not as full sounding as the Eliptrac. I was most taken with the increases in bass... more taught and less fuzz. I like more bracing. (Bob makes using the Faital doable... Recessing it in without a CNC mill would be a total pain. I would use the Faital over a M2380 for use and prob over any plastic/resin horns out there, its that good. But I prefer the eliptrac. The real change done with this speaker is the horn, and the difference is one of personal preference. Keeping the cab, woofer and crossover the same make this newest pair sound like a member of the family. Not the same, but related for sure. BEC
As an aside... Bob Crites Kit (which this was based on is really amazing.) Bob are you planing to do a 3 way version with the Faital tweeter lens? I did build a 3-way using the HF-140/LTH142 as the midrange several years ago. I just never got happy with it then so dropped it. Thought that crossing from mid to tweet at around 10khz would be a good combination using the Selenium D220TI on a Faital LTH 102 tractrix horn would make a good combination. I still think that configuration could work good, and might take another shot at it some day.
justinsweber
That could be a great combo or with the Parts express version with the Polymide. Nice work on the design Bob! Thank you
