Newbie here and first home theater

Looking to start putting together my first home theater.

I plan on using the r26f or r28f Klipsch speakers along with the surround speakers and center channel from the same line. I get a good discount on them making them a lot cheaper than normal. Those are the only choices of speakers I have as an option and to fit within my budget I'm using my discount on them. I will also be getting he 10 or 12 inch woofer also. But I need to find a receiver to suit them.

I can choose between Denon and marantz for the receiver but could use some help deciding which model would work for them.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I would step into the klipsch rp 160m .and leave the bestbuy stuff alone with the discount you could proble get some good refrence premiere bookshelf speakers. Or go with the refrence ii rf 62. And diffrent sub woofer. Just food for thought.

There are a ton of deals to be had on Reference II, W/X/Y Icon series, and KG series speakers on CraigsList and eBay that would absolutely decimate the Icon Reference speakers you are referring to.  If you're a little patient, you could probably get a killer setup for the same or less than your discounted price.

Welcome, I am new-ish to the community as well, but not to home theater.  I agree with Swa99a.  Deal or not, wait for your budget to be available and get 160M.  They are good for easy listening and have terrific quality.  You could skip the sub until a later time if you want, those handle just upwards of 50Hz, so music with all but the lowest of bass would be reproduced perfectly.

I myself have used Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer receivers.  With respect to all brands, most are capable of roughly the same thing.  Watts per channel is not as important with efficient speakers.  The real number to look at is THD (Total Harmonic Distortion).  At 8 ohms, which most if not all of Klipsch products run on, even a decent stereo amp/receiver from the fore mentioned brands should be around .08% THD, which is fine.  Aim for that, and you should have many options.

As enthusiasts, it really does matter which speaker set you get.  In the end, get what works for you, but if you go with a slightly higher level/grade of speaker, they could last a life-time.

I have found RF-3 II's for $100, I've seen RB-15's for $70.  They can be had pretty darn cheap.

I don't have a lot of faith in the speakers sold at Best Buy...that's coming from an ex-Best Buy associate.

Are there any websites I should look at or is eBay and Craigslist my best option?

And as far as receivers go with a budget of 800 or so maybe less what are some good models from those two brands to look for?

Eh, sometimes one can get lucky on Amazon, but don't hold your breath.  Question; Is your budget of $800 for the receiver only?  Or the whole system?  If only for the receiver, you can get a rather nice mid-range system with tons of capability.

You could probably track down some nice Sherbourn receivers or a Fusion 8100 for that budget and still have cash left over.

There's also some pretty nice options out there in the Yamaha Aventage line, along with Marantz and Denon.  Head over to Accessories4Less too, they have great options available.

For speakers:

Audiogon, eBay, and Craigslist are good options.

Welcome to the forum. If you're looking for a receiver, Denon has a limited time offer on the AVR X4100W. Normal street price is $1499, current deal is $799.

** 125w x 7-channels

** Audyssey  MultEQ® XT32 with Sub EQ HT

** Dolby Atmos

Sounds like you have a discount via work, they should have the same offer available, but also check accessories4less for additional options.

Yeah, this should definitely be the answer to your question - work or not.

The deal is available thru Amazon, Newegg, Crutchfield & others... so the OP should have the same deal available. I have the same receiver & it drives my Reference set-up RF-7, RC-7, RS-7.... & 4 Atmos speakers (with external 2-ch amp). $799 is a great deal for BNIB with 3 year warranty. Highly recommended for a $800 budget. It does not have DTS:X, but obviously has DTS-MA & Dolby True HD 7.1 & Atmos. Good luck to the OP,

I'll have to look over my budget and see if I can swing it are there some other recommendations for less maybe the 500 to 600 range so I can use more towards a better set of speakers?

My recommendation would be to the tune of the Yamaha Aventage gear you can land through Accessories4Less.

You can also scope to see if you could find one of the Emotiva Fusion 8100's like I mentioned.  It will absolutely dominate anything else out there at the $400-$500 price range.

Agreed.  You should be able to land an RX-A740 for around $600-ish.  It has enough juice to power a very nice setup.  It would also leave you room for expansion in the future.  I will post Yamaha's link, but use IbizaFlame's suggestions for a better price.

Hands down spend more on speakers!!! They can last a lifetime. Receiver will be outdated in two years. Period. Skip the best buy speakers and get into reference premiere stuff or used stuff. List your location. There are lots of guys on here who can help you score some great deals used. Just cause you got that sweet discount through your work or wherever doesn't always mean to use it. Some INSANE deals can be found used. And a lower model receiver can get you by for a while while better speakers are gathered up to compete your dream theater. Trust me, we all have spent WAY too much money buying over and over again when we would have saved had we just got what we wanted from the get go.

What is the setup YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE???
