derrickdj1
Visit the cult:http://ibsubwoofers.proboards.com/ This will be a helpful site along the way of the build. Is this a main floor room? Have you checked out the Dayton 18 in. driver from PE?
Scrappydue
OK - the big Klipsch KPT 1802 SUBwoofer is a big horn. The woofer/compression driver is a horn type driver.(18in) So far no/one in the USA has one at home. The cabinet is like a small van in size. My main listening room has 2 doors that could be modified into IB Subs mounting panels. (two large holes in each) What does one look for specs for an IB woofer? (18in) there is a forum member that has one. Although I'm thinking he maybe in Canada. He even has it in cherry to match his jubs
CECAA850
there is a forum member that has one. That's Formica, I have one as well.
CECAA850
My main listening room has 2 doors that could be modified into IB Subs mounting panels. (two large holes in each) What does one look for specs for an IB woofer? (18in) The best IB woofers (bang for the buck) are made by Ficaraudio. If I were building one today, that's where I'd get mine. Using doors to mount IB drivers has several shortcomings. First you have to have a door stout enough to hold the drivers and withstand the pressures and vibrations they'll create. Second, you have to have a perfect seal when closed. Those two facts alone would dissuade me. You also have to have enough cubic feet on the back side to equal 10 times the Vas of the drivers mounted on the door.
CECAA850
You mentioned panels. Would you permanently seal these? If so, this could make it feasible.
CECAA850
Have you checked out the Dayton 18 in. driver from PE? If you're talking about the HO, I definitely would NOT use that in an IB. With 13mm of xmax, you'll rip it apart.

CECAA850
My idea/dream notion was to remove the two hollow core doors, replace with doors made from 3 pcs of 3/4 plywood. You'll need to devise a method of sealing the doors air tight when closed. I would think you'd need some pretty beefy hinges and latches as well. CECAA850
so hinges will be included STOUT hinges, not your garden variety bathroom door hinge. It's amazing how much mechanical vibration even a single 18 will put out. My IB is lag bolted to the kitchen ceiling joists and triangle braced with 2x4's and lag bolts to the attic roof joists. CECAA850
Your ceiling/attic IB also does not have a large foot print in the listening room. Prior to the IB, I had an SVS PB12+2 and a PCU in the living room. My wife LOVED the IB idea.

derrickdj1
Will he need to reinforce the wall if he does an IB in the room pic with K horn? This project is one that needs a little research and careful planning. Edited September 4, 2015 by derrickdj1
