Paducah Home Theater
So the RF-7's had a pretty straightforward horn. You cut a square, drop it in the hole, screw it down, end of story. The horn by itself was actually a pretty cheap part as well. RF-7ii's, the cost of the horn itself seems to have went up quite a bit, but the horn is only half of it. You then have a horn lens on top of that. I'm not about to take one apart just for the fun of it, but I do have some spare parts, and the best I can tell you have a 5/8" baffle, with a smaller than usual square hole cut in it, more than likely the horn is mounted from the back side somehow, then the horn lens goes on top of it, sandwiching the baffle in between the two plastic parts, and it is held in place with several plastic prongs that insert into the horn, which I easily broke two of which is why I'm not going to pry on a finished product for no good reason. The end result looks about like an RF-7 horn but without the screw holes. I originally thought it went flat up against the externally mounted horn, but there is like a 5/8" space in between them and externally mounting the horn pushes the lens way out. So, I guess I'm curious as to if all this was done just to hide the screw holes or is there more to the story? Also does the horn lens do anything functionally speaking or is it only for looks? http://reconingspeakers.com/product/klipsch-rf-7-sii-horn-lens-1011762/ http://reconingspeakers.com/product/klipsch-rf-7-sii-trim-for-horn-lens-1012264/
Jay L
It was done to hide fasteners. Yes, it is functional. Edited September 24, 2015 by Jay L
