shisle Posted September 30, 2015 Share Posted September 30, 2015 Vintage Klipschorn. Per the label on the midrange horn, the date of manufacture March 28,1956. Model K-5-J. Serial #1136. Appears to be maple wood with a dark finish. University SAHF Driver. Woofer is a Type K-3-F-2 serial #1619 Finish FR. This speaker, along with a 1953 model that I am also selling, were the pride and joy of my Father's. Appears to sound fine, but, unfortunately, I cannot confirm that 100%. Some scratches and a dent in the side of the front grill, veneer piece missing at bottom. I want to find this speaker a new loving home. Local pickup in Lexington, Kentucky Will sell to the highest offer over $500 received on or before Oct 6th. Must be paid for and picked up before October 15th. I believe the bass tag serial number of 1619 would indicate a vintage build date in mid 1960 to early 1961, regardless of horn and top hat dates. I have no idea. I've seen several early to late fifties klipschorns and the serial numbers I've seen in the 1956 vintage I believe run in the 11xx range, with 1959's I've seen that have serials in the 14xx range. It would be interesting to find out if they bounced around with the numbers sequence and as a separate point, whether they had stocks of those old wood horns laying around. Most early klipschorns I've seen have k-5-j (and earlier model) mid horns with build dates usually very close in proximity to bass bin tag build dates. Just my personal experience, and an observation from the pics on the nice Klipschorn being offered here. For some buyers it may not matter, for others, who knows.
