tromprof
I got home from a concert this morning, went down to the basement, flipped on the system just in time for the lights to dim, go out, come back on again, go out, stay out for 20 seconds, and come back on. By the time all was said and done my Pioneer SC-1222-K receiver wasn't working. All it would do is flash "FL off" which is code for somethings messed up and it ain't going to fix itself. I tried resting the unit unplugged but no good. A little research indicated this is not an uncommon fault. So the question. The unit is now 2 !/2 years old. Repair or replace? Send it to Pioneer to fix or try local? Bummer
derrickdj1
I don't remember how much they were new and how long the warranty last. It would be nice to get a local repair estimate and then decide. Are you looking for any new features in the HT like Atmos?
tromprof
New it was $550 or so, a good deal at the time. Warranty was 1 year, so long gone. I am not looking for new features, I really liked the unit. Sound was great. If I were to replace I would like even better sound perhaps and trouble free? With the speakers I have 7.2 will be my max, bluray video just fine. Edited October 4, 2015 by tromprof
tromprof
Going to contact a couple of local repair shops and get their opinion. Not really very happy with Pioneer, nothing else in the house suffered damage.

I wouldn't give up on it just yet thinking that something is fried. Given the error message I would try to follow that lead and see where it leads. You might just have to reload some firmware or something simple. Edited October 4, 2015 by wvu80
tromprof
"Blown transistors in the power unit" is what I came across in a thread about this issue in the AVS forum. Oh goody.
Snaffoo
Sorry about your loss tromrof. No doubt, Pioneer knows something about the problem you're having and (hopefully) has a reasonable way to deal with it. I just went through a failure with an 8 month old Sony BluRay player. Tried all methods to remedy myself and went through all the motions with Sony's online help/chat, just another waste of time for me. I'm now inclined to smash the thing to bits and mail a few pieces of my player to Sony with note saying... I'll never buy another SONY product ever again and then add their name to the same list as Bose. Seems to me if I become a brand name terrorist and tell most anybody who will listen I'll feel better in the end and maybe, just maybe, the offending company may get wind of the noise being made and address problems in a better manner. Guest thesloth
Open it up and take a look. That code is for the fan or power supply. Maybe there is a lot of dust in it and overheating and going into thermal shutdown. I am not real familiar with the exact model but a local tech should be able to tell you if it's worth fixing for a minimal fee.
tromprof
Happy ending? After a certain amount of digging I found a combination of buttons to push to "reset" the unit. I tried it and it came back to life. So it seems that nothing was permanently damaged, the processor just had its tiny little silicon mind blown. I will have time to put it through its paces in a couple of days but I am a much happier camper.
