edit post # 29: with Black Friday Bundle deals of $299 & $349

==================

Whether you plan to use the PS4 for games or movies, it seems Sony is finally getting ready to announce a price drop.  An online "oops" moment from Target (which has now been pulled) gave an indication that the announcement is coming soon. In order to compete XBOX One has been at $349 for quite some time now, so now the PS4 will soon be dropping to that same price point. Early info suggests that the new lower price will also include a Game Bundle, that will offer even more value.

Rumor has it the price drop announcement could be available at end of October... to compete with the October 27th launch of (mega title) Halo 5, on XBOX One.

I like how they are charging more for a crappier system than the PS3 was. I also liked how each PS3 version that came out was significantly worse than before. I bought a 20 gb PS3 on release day in Japan. It played any and every damn disc on the planet except HD-DVD. And it lasted for 5-6 years. I bought when I was single and had an embarrassing amount of gaming time played on it. It had a ton of use. New ones last half the time won't play any of the original games or sacd or anything any more. Kind of a bummer. When this one is gone it will get replaced with a Blu ray player of some sort

Anybody planning to do this and using it as a blu ray player needs to be aware that there is no media remote, and you cannot turn the lights on the gaming remotes off.  It is very annoying both in light output and in having to recharge them constantly.

OMG the batteries on these remotes do not last at all! If I have a chatting headset in it only lasts like 4-5 hours. I can't tell if this is an engineering compramise to keep the weight of the controller down or not. I know you  can adjust the lights which might help with batter life but like you said it would be nice to shut it completely off.

The controller is the remote. If you are watching a blue ray click the options button and scroll over to "control panel". Hopefully I helped if that is what you are talking about.

I still have one of the "Fatboy" PS3s, and it has been heavily used for gaming since it was purchased. I have never had a problem with this one. My previous PS2 became a brick when I did a firmware update (luckily it was still under warranty and it was replaced with the newer version for free. I have been holding out on replacing our XBox 360 and PS3 because I want HDMI 2 and HDCP 2,14. To me it was stupid for them to leave this out as HDCP 2.14 gives 2 people gaming the full screen when wearing a pair of proprietary glasses.

Can't you use the old PS3 media remotes?

Yes I know how to play movies with the gaming remotes, and doing this really sucks compared to the old remote you could get with the PS3.

Wouldn't they still be selling them as a PS4 mod if you could?  I don't know for sure but I didn't think so.

Yet another reason NOT to buy a PS4. They need to start making these consoles backward compatible.

I see, I never had a PS3 and didn't know you could get a separate remote.

It is strange how these "next generation" consoles actually do less than their predecessor. I face palmed when I first got mine and I couldn't play an audio CD. I mean seriously can it be that hard to add that?

I have the fatboy 80gb backward compatible PS3.  Great machine.  I used that for Blu-ray and gaming for years.  I agree with Scrappy.  Never had a issue playing any discs.  My dad bought a Sony Blu-ray early on.  I took over 3 discs.  Only 1 played.  He took it back and I went and bought him a PS3.  He is still using it to this day.

Easy fix for the battery life issue that i did......

Video guide:

Battery pack to order.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000mAh-3-7V-Rechargeable-Battery-Pack-for-Sony-Playstation-PS4-Controller-Cable-/151483548246?hash=item23451f8256

The tools you need is in the video, Very simple fix & take less than 10 to 15 mins to replace each battery. Also if you going to buy a battery from somewhere else just make sure the upgrade is 2000mAh the battery in the PS4 is 1000mAh.

Appears the street price will be $29.99 & it will communicate via a Bluetooth connection and be able to control up to three additional AV devices. What's more, it will also be compatible with a number of existing streaming apps including Crunchyroll, HBO GO, Netflix, Twitch and YouTube.

Have a PS4 and I love it. It's superior to the PS3 in a lot of ways and inferior in other. I'm guessing the backwards compatibility issue will be fixed in an update - similar to what Microsoft is doing. I guess my question is why does it need to play CDs? When the PS3 launched CDs were still everywhere, now they're just not as widely used. It's less programing that has to be done. I just don't think it's that big of an issue, personally. Never played CDs in my PS3 either....
