Hi there. I have a blown tweeter in my maple RF7. This forum was super helpful back when I was piecing together my home theater system with suggestions steering me towards the RF7s and eventually finding the matching center. I'm hoping you can suggest or steer me in the right direction to find a replacement tweeter? Been doing some searching, but am fairly ignorant on exactly where to search or what is the correct replacement. I did search on ebay and it came up with a silk tweeter and I know that isn't the correct replacement.

I have cancer and am on my 3rd round of different chemo in the last 3 1/2 years and for various reasons, I haven't been able to enjoy my home theater set up since. I'm doing good on this round of chemo, and finally got to set up my RF7s and center channel again, and pop, I blow a tweeter within a week. The universe is conspiring against me I tell you! Seriously though, I'm in good spirits and just want some help steering in me in the right direction to find a replacement tweeter so I can enjoy my set up again. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Carlooch is right those are tough pro quality compression drivers and it would take a lot to damage one. Not that they could not die but it is not common and I have not heard of one going south either. Check the driver and you can pull the crossover out and have a look for anything that does not look healthy.

the one ohm resistor would be worth testing and if that is good then one or the other of those two series caps could be your culprit (5 & 12 uf). see the link there is a copy of the RF7 network there.

The RF-7's also have jumper wires on the terminal cup where you hook up the speaker wires.  If the jumper is loose going to the HF terminal, you won't have any tweeter output either.  Be sure they're tight and making good contact.

Hopefully, that will solve your issue, and if so, Carl normally sends out his consultation invoice rather quickly.....

Thinking you could give the guy a break?

He was kidding.  He doesn't quite have my knack for conveying a sense of humor over the internet.

I bet he is going to go into the private 5,000 post chat room now and talk about you...

Sorry, didn't expect replies so quickly. I don't have an Ohm meter to check it, and I have no technical know how on the way to go about doing that. But I will check the jumper cables 1st and see if that solves the issue. Big Cubs fan and I just watched them clinch their way into the NLCS, so hopefully loose jumper cable is the culprit so I can watch the next series with the speakers cranked up. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll report back with status. This was one of the reasons I decided to get the used Klipsch in the first place, the forum is full of people willing to help with any issues. You guys are appreciated.

Yeah, I lost my password. But honestly I don't think I had ton of posts anyways, but yeah, 1 post and you guys rock. I had my friend check the connection the night I thought it blew. He was taking a ribbing from me about how his soundbar was so good. I am sure it is great compared to your tv speakers and all, but really, I told him he should listen to a pair of real speakers once. And he was laughing because he was like, yeah those old boys blew a tweeter. I bet he purposely looked back there and didn't check those wires properly. Then again, he might have looked back there and thought, what the heck is all this, all I have is a soundbar? But anyways, before I get too long winded, I will say that was the issue. Loose jumper cable, so add me to the list of people that were too dumb to check that 1st. Well, I did, but not personally before posting here. So I have too much faith in my friends ability to check a wire I suppose. But thanks for the help, quick responses. And I even appreciate the 1st post and you want us to help you? I can be a smart *** myself, and my cancer has not touched a bit of my humor. You guys rock, and thanks to your help, now I do again too.

Good to hear from you.  Sorry to hear about the cancer thing.  OTOH, we have a good crew here and do share such matters.  You should know that you have our support as far as that is possible on the Internet and forum.  Keep the faith.

The tweeter is by far the most fragile of components in the speaker.  But if you have not been doing anything naughty with your speakers it is a bit of a puzzle why it would fail.  It happens.

Others here have suggested you can get a whole new unit.  I would have said you can get a replacement voice coil unit, even from Klipsch.  But see how that goes as far as parts availability.

If you're in the Chicago area I could visit and help.  But not having a car, I'd have to take public transportation.  I'm busy next weekend. But after that, let me know.

That is an amazingly kind offer WMcD. I actually do live around Chicago in Northwest Indiana, but it seems to have been the simplest fix, for which I am feeling pretty lucky. I get my chemo up at Northwestern. I live about halfway between Chicago and South Bend, and can take the South Shore, but usually make the drive.

You guys are awesome with support on speaker and cancer stuff, I'm doing pretty well on this round of chemo. I have a crazy rare sarcoma that I didn't catch before it spread on me, and am doing a clinical trial (my 2nd different one, and 3rd different chemo treatment overall with a round of radiation thrown in for good measure), and hopefully it proves to be as useful as the first one. My oncologist just told me the first one I participated in is getting FDA approval and was successful in prolonging people's lives, including my own. Honestly it's too cool you guys are all so helpful, and everyone that asks me what type speakers to get I'm always saying Klipsch because they are great speakers, and if you have an issue, there is a forum of people that are big fans and are willing to help. You have just proved my point again.

I don't usually pull out my "cancer card", but I was so bummed about those speakers not working after not hearing them for so long. And I only had them reconnected for a week and was so happy until I thought that tweeter blew. But all is right in my Klipsch world again, and the Cubs might just try and win me a World Series before I die after all, who knew? (see, I have nothing but humor when it comes to that pesky old cancer, well that and little bit of help from chemo) Thanks again, I don't want to dwell on the cancer thing any more, I'm working on beating it down. But thanks again for the kind words, helpful suggestions (got ebay part bookmarked just in case), and the humor. You guys do Klipsch a service by having such a cool community of aficiandos willing to help fellow owners.
