Scrappydue
ok guys klipsch has some sweet models it looks like in the pro section. these would obviously be very large bookshelves on stands with about as beast of a horizontal center as you could get with still being small enough for a living room. maybe order in raw birch and stain yourself. or have someone veneer them. but i want someone to give em a shot! http://images.klipsch.com/KI-398-RGL_-_Data_Sheet_-_v02_635766169114484000.pdf http://images.klipsch.com/KI-396-SMA-II_-_Spec_Sheet_635699831590138000.pdf crossovers are slightly different. not sure how much that would effect anything. but they all share the same woofer and compression driver from what i can see. wvu80
I have a DIY 2-way with a 15" pro driver and a 12" SEOS horn. (bottom of pic, unfinished MDF. This is part of my nearfield computer setup) Just for fun I threw it on its side and tried it as a center. The sound is stunning, incredibly accurate and lifelike with voices, especially male voices. For a whole lot of technical reasons I never thought it would work as a center, but it does. Klipsch might be on to something here with those 2-ways with large drivers in an array setup. Paducah Home Theater
I want those 396's.
Scrappydue
Wvu normally I would say the seos would have the edge over reference stuff but the b&c de-750 that Klipsch uses in the pro stuff is a few notches above the seos CD's. But yes they do got something going on. Only problem is I think last time I inquired about the 396's they were more money than a set of kpt-904's which makes zero sense to me. Quiet_Hollow
I want those 396's. Agreed. They sound excellent, especially when dialed-in by the Chief himself. Highly recommended. I have an 88 special which has a 15" SEOS horn which is more highly regarded. It's just not the same. That DE-750 is in a different league. I can't imagine it in a big line array. Holy cow. Paducah Home Theater
Really the only thing I didn't like about the KPT-904's at least in a home environment from 12' away is that there seemed to be a disconnect between the horn and the woofers. I expected the two 15's to be more powerful or at least there to be a more seamless transition. I keep wondering if this is done in order for the highs to blast through commercial acoustic screens, and also if the 396 (which is designed to operate out in the open) performs differently in this regard. If so I'd be all about them. Just seems like ideally you shouldn't be able to tell when the compression driver cuts out. Otherwise I loved them. I can't remember which one it was but one of them seemed to have a better top end than the rest.

Paducah Home Theater
Those look really nice. Scrap you know the cost on these? MSRP is $2,599 each on the 396's. The 398 version isn't in the system yet from what I can tell.

Is that price coming from klipsch or a dealer? Straight from Klipsch, but it's not on Klipsch's retail site, that's what's listed on Klipsch's dealer site. I'm a dealer and I'm looking at it right now. If you want to confirm, here's some third party ads that's open to the public. http://www.aztekcomputers.com/1007855-KLIPSCH-4512954.html http://www.antarespro.com/8641647-item-KLIPSCH-1007855-743878012118.aspx Of course they shouldn't be advertising in that manner but notice the retail / msrp prices.
