Sold: Harman Kardon 730

$225 Shipped in its original box and packaging.  Shipping will be FedEx ground with insurance to the United States lower 48 only.  Paypal preferred, I'll eat their charges.

Condition: This hasn't been recapped or serviced that I know of.  I'm the second owner.  Looking through the top chassis venting, the inside surfaces are dirty.  All lights work except the red 'stereo' light when using the FM radio.  Knobs have slight scratching when turning but all function.....deoxit will fix.  Faceplate is very clean.  The only blemishes are left of the headphone jack, above the 106 tuner number, and some circular scratches around the tuner knob, all pictured below.

I'm not much of a vinyl person so I haven't checked the Phono input.  I can dig out my only TT and a few albums if you want me to verify it works.

Now for the good stuff: 730s sound awesome with Klipsch, especially when hooked up to Chorus IIs (haven't owned any larger Heritage).  Very full, robust sound.  More than you'd assume with 40 watts per channel.  If you're into ear splitting volume levels this will tap out before you're satisfied.  Still, it'll get up into the 85db range no problem with Heritage.

Reason for the sale is I'm saving up for a newer HT amp and have three of these 730s.   Three is too much hoarding but two is just right.

Yep....I hoard vintage Marantz with the exception of an HK 430 which is basically the same thing as the 730 with less power. These receivers have balls. Big, full sound like Riv said. They do excellent with Klipsch.

I would love to try one of these, and you are just a bit north of me.  Very tempted!  Once in my hands, I would want to get it looked over, cleaned up and back in top shape.  Maybe a re-cap if necessary.  Anyone doing this kind of work in the Northern IL or Southern WI area?  dwillie.

I've had Dale (user name dale_s) spruce up my HK 730.  Very sincere, good guy.  My 730 sounds awesome thanks to him.  He lives close to Madison.  Here he is:

Very busy schedule so you might have to take a number.

Or there is http://marantzhallo-fi.blogspot.com/

Noah is the business owner.  Located in Evansville WI, he works on vintage and modern gear.  Found out about him through another Klipsch forum member who spoke very highly of his work.  I haven't worked with him yet.

River nuggets, my apologies for hi-jacking your thread, especially after you were kind enough to point me to Dale S for x30 restoration a few years ago. At least this interruption is an endorsement of the quailty and desirability of your h/k 730 receiver. If I didn't already have 3 h/k Twin Power receivers, I'd buy yours.

Dale S is a great guy. He refurbished a 430 my son enjoys and he now has two 730s and a 630 belonging to me. Yes there is a line, a long line.

Dale prefers working on tube gear, but will work on H/K x30 receivers, as he appreciates their vintage quality. He does this as a hobby when life doesn't get in the way. I would be extremely surprised if he were willing to take on more work until he gets my three off his bench.

When they're finally done, one or two might be available. My plan was to gift two of them to a niece and nephew. The impatience of youth has encouraged them to go with AVRs. Vintage receivers might be wasted on hipsters.

If you're interested, and not in a hurry, shoot me a PM.

It's cool.

The impatience of youth has encouraged them to go with AVRs. Vintage receivers might be wasted on hipsters.

Let them hear your HKs against their AVRs before moving on.

PM sent.  If you're suggesting you may have a couple HKs for sale in the future, please start a new thread.

If you haven't sold this by the April Hope gathering, (which would be hard to believe...), bring it to Rodney's and I will buy it from you.

Someone needs to buy this and spend a few bucks for a recap.  You will not be disappointed.  This is the cleanest unit I've seen in a long time, and the price with shipping is terrific.

My HK 430 is being restored by Hallo-Fi as we speak......can't wait to get it back and compare to my newly restored Marantz units.

I didn't know about Dale_S.......good to know there is another competent tech nearby.

Sounds good, if it's still available come April it's yours.

Thanks.  I thought it would go quickly given its condition.  After Christmas it will most likely be gone.

Aside from the slightly scratchy controls (they aren't bad at all) it's plug and play as is.
