Robert Gervais Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 New construction-basement theater room. Looking to install 4 - 5800s for Atmos system. Anybody ever worked with the ME-800-C? I would like to use them for the speaker enclosures for the 5800s. Thanks RG Quote
Paducah Home Theater Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I've got four of them but never have installed them. They're stronger than they look in the pictures. It seems that fireprooofing is the biggest advantage, such as with commercial drop ceilings, which is required by code everywhere. There's some cheaper polymer type of enclosures meant for lights at the Home Depot that are supposed to work fine for insulation and soundproofing purposes in houses if local codes don't require metal. I don't think you could go wrong with the metal ones though. 1 Quote
schwock5 Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 question on these, if installing with sound isolation clips, hat channel, and DD+GG layer would these not work? If these are drilled into the joist then wouldn't there be like a 3 inch gap between the bottom and the other side of the drywall? I think this would leave a gap where the hat channel is so the enclosure wouldn't fully contain the speaker. any advice? If these were installed lower than the joist by using additional wood then i think that renders the isolation clip/hat channel useless by creating a solid link. Quote
