willland
First try to find an app on your iPhone. If that meets your needs, then great. Second try the ole Radio Shack meter. Bill

Scrappydue
iPhone apps are a joke for actual spl. They do sell a mic that can be plugged in to your phone. Don't know how good it is. Radio shack one will be better. I use an omnimic setup. Problem with the phone is you can't check low frequency spl accurately at all. Radio shack one you can. CECAA850
The Radio Shack meter is a good one. I've had one for years and set up several HT's with it.
DizRotus
I got a Radio Shack meter on clearance at a store that was closing (redundant). It works fine and was a bargain.

garyrc
Need some recommendations for an spl meter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The inexpensive ones are O.K. for measuring overall SPL, but no good for measuring frequency response. Even though some compensation tables/charts are available for the RS meter, the various ones out there contradict each other. To measure frequency response, it's best to go to the REW (room eq wizard) site and download it. It's FREE, a real public service. You will need a calibrated measurement microphone (~~ $100). You enter the calibration into REW, then run REW.

DizRotus
It seems RS no longer carries it. Try Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Radio-Shack-33-099-Digital-Sound/dp/B000A1EHGW or eBay Edited December 18, 2015 by DizRotus
TasDom
Usually a bunch on ebay. I bought a new one there a couple years back http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR4.TRC2.A0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=Radio+Shack++Sound+Level+Meter&_sacat=
Jay L
Galaxy Audio is about the best you can do without breaking the bank. The analog Rat Shack is okay if you can still find it. Edited December 18, 2015 by Jay L
