just635 Posted January 4, 2016 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Hi guys! So I have been slowly upgrading my quintet system since last year. First replacing the front speakers with a pair of RF-42 ii's. I now want to replace the center channel and am considering the R-25C vs RC-62ii. I know that the RC-62ii is a much better product and I was really leaning towards it since I found it brand new for $350 whereas the R-25C was $250, but I now found the R-25C brand new for $124. So my question is, is it really more worth it to pay $226 more for the RC-62 ii or would I just be fine with the R-25C at this price point? I am not a huge audiophile, but I do enjoy good sound and consider anything an upgrade over my quintet center channel. I could afford the $226, but I'd rather save the money if I can. Thanks! I owned that full 42ii theater for a year or so. It's a great little home theater for sure. The 62ii center will be better but almost overpowering. I see you getting that and then shortly wanting bigger towers. It's a slippery slope. The rf-62ii/rc-62ii to me is the sweet spot in the reference line for the money. This ^^^. (perhaps "these?") As a personal preference, I like MTM center speakers with woofers in the 6" to 7" range. It's not the over powering that is the issue it's the timber' is not correct so the center will have a different sound to it. The RC-52ii uses the same tweeter and crossover freq so it "should" match your towers and provide a seamless soundstage. That being said a lot of people don't seem to hear or mind different center channels, if that is case it would be personal pref so you's have to listen for yourself. Should I take this or should I stick to getting either an rc-62ii or rc-52ii? I know it doesn't match my rf-42ii's, but newer=better, right? I think every single thing they did to the reference premieres BESIDES aesthetics changes, were for the worse. At least for home theater. For 2 channel the 160's are pretty dang good.
