wvu80
Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about tubes. Is that a vintage setup, and what exactly are we looking at? Matthews
Is that a vintage setup, and what exactly are we looking at? The front plates are different. That atom logo is super cool looking. The tube amps are not vintage. They are brand spankin' new. Completely hand crafted from the cutting of the wood to the machine and etching of the aluminum to the soldering of all the iron inside. The one on the left is the power amplifier, Genesis 6. On the right is the Exodus Line-Stage (pre-amp). The tubes themselves, now they very well may be from a time long past. Just not sure about the era of each of those. Some I know are NOS, others "antique". The La Scala's, now those are vintage 1978 models (and soon for sale) Matt ♪ ♫ ♪
woodsman
I fully agree with you Matt, ToolShed Audio amp is the best sounding and best built amp. When I picked mine up from Matt he played some music on a CD, which I would have sworn was vinyl. There was ZERO harness to the music and and the volume he put it at, ZERO distortion. Just amazing sound.
CECAA850
When I picked mine up from Matt he played some music on a CD, which I would have sworn was vinyl. His amps change the sound of the source? I thought an amp should merely amplify, not add or subtract from the signal.

Matthews
Then why don't all amps sound the same with the same source? Amplifiers are each going to have their own signature. Whether tube amp or SS, they are going to sound different. However, an amplifier is not going to make a record sound like a CD, it is still going to sound like a record no matter what amp/pre/receiver one may be using. There will be subtle differences in different amps but they shouldn't drastically change the sound of your source. They should amplify what the source sends. CECAA850
No argument on the differences in amp sounds. I would still categorize the differences as subtle but with all things audio, it's subjective. I also agree pretty much with everything else you stated. I still don't think an amp should make one source sound like a different one, maybe that's a "me" issue.

Matthews
After spending some time to familiarize myself with the new toys, the verdict is in... Upon first investigation (listening session), my suspicion was immediately confirmed. After a few more, one hour sessions, it becomes harder and harder to shut things down and get back to work. The pleasing warmth and stunning detail produced by "The Twins" is a sound that will nearly melt me in my seat, leaving me incapacitated to do nothing more than changing to another CD and continue with listening bliss. Now, my SS never sounded bad. However, I never knew what I had been missing. My heart has been won! Tool Shed Audio has made me believer. Stellar build, my friend.
