moray james
How can I check for watt output on my XL600? Is there a commercial device easily hooked up to check this? if you amplifier is running properly and it has no obvious issues such as over heating, audible distortion or too much DC on the output then what is it that has you concerned? Is there some issue that would suggest that there is a problem? Amplifiers don't lose power without some sort of problems that ought to be readily detectable. If you are dealing with any of the previously listed problems they would all be good reasons to take your amplifier in for a check up. A technician can test your amp for output and for distortion levels to see if it meets specification but unless you have a reason to assume that there may be a problem to investigate why spend the money? Most good shops these days will charge you $75.00 - $125.00 for bench time, most have a min. of an hour charge some a half hour. If you are concerned for some reason given the amplifiers age lets say why not take your to some one like John Hillig at Musical Concepts and have it upgraded? The amp will be checked out before and after the upgrade, then at least the money that you spend will have resulted in both improved sound and improved reliability plus a warranty and not just a tech telling you everything is fine.
