JL Sargent
A person has to wonder if we have some of this going on in the good 'ole USA?
jason str
I saw that yesterday. WooHoo saved 5 bucks worth of concrete this way. If you want it done right you got to do it yourself.
DizRotus
I'm all for recycling, but this form seems wrong.
JL Sargent
It's my understanding that the construction company responsible is now defunct.
Ceptorman
It would've collapsed even if the void wasn't there in the concrete.
Paducah Home Theater
http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/02/08/465984002/photos-of-cans-inside-taiwan-building-s-pillars-help-spur-call-for-safety-review It seems that the cans are actually from cooking oil, and they are widely used to expand columns to make them appear bigger, and not really used for structural purposes. They were outlawed in 1999, but, the replacement is simply styrofoam. I don't see how that's really any better. If it were a structural issue, they wouldn't be using styrofoam either. NBPK402
In my first house (a track home)... I opened up the closet walls to add lighting for the stairs, and found beer cans, bottles, and a nice 4' level in the walls.
JL Sargent
and a nice 4' level in the walls. Sweet! You got a bonus!
Jim Naseum
Outside of western Europe, USA, Canada, Japan and Australia/NZ, I wouldn't trust major structures of any kind. There is too much graft, bribery, and corruption along with a total lack of regulation.
babadono
Ahh..... its the rebar that gives the structure tensile strength... you can break concrete with the back of your hand karate man.
WMcD
I suspect this was only one of many cost cutting aspects of the build. WMcD
rebuy
I've heard of people finding bottles of beer and other things in new car doors. They say don't buy a car built on a Monday or Friday. On Monday--many are suffering from the weekend--and Friday, they're thinking about the weekend.
