baronkyle
How does the Klipsch forum community feel about using orange drops in vintage tube gear? It seems like some people love them, and others won't touch them. Lastly, I was looking at the Citation photos at the very bottom of this link. Are those orange drops that SDS is using? http://quadesl.com/refurb/refurb_hkCitation1.html
baronkyle
A better question could also be: what vintage circuits pair well with drops; and which don't? If you have used them, let me know what you restored and what you thought of the sonics after. Cheers.
Jim Naseum
ODs are the capacitor of choice for guitarists who are still using MI amps like BlackFace Fenders.
tube fanatic
For what it's worth, I don't find Orange Drops to be better or worse than similar caps. To me, it's more a cosmetic issue than anything else..... Maynard

If it was you, what are some capacitor options for coupling and power supply? (I play all my tube gear on Forte IIs)
tube fanatic
William is correct about the CDE DME series caps being my favorites. They are exceedingly reliable and reasonably priced. Regarding the power supply electrolytics I try, whenever possible, to install replacements under the chassis (leaving the originals in place to preserve the cosmetics). Any of the higher quality general replacement, 105 deg. rated, caps work fine. I often use Nichicons. For cathode bypass, I use just about anything. Keep in mind that I do not hear differences between capacitors. Others may disagree which is why there's such a big market for "designer" caps. It's a personal choice. One point in regard to your receiver is that, if you replace caps and other parts in any of the RF stages, a complete realignment will be necessary. This requires some reasonably sophisticated test equipment. I recommend your having that done professionally as the results of an improper alignment can render the tuner section fairly useless.Maynard
mustang guy
I like them for purely cosmetic reasons. I recapped my Fisher monoblocks with them. I'm perfectly happy with the results. Billzumwalt
Not all orange drops are the same construction. 715, 716, 6ps, 225, etc. they sound different. 6ps are warmer sounding than 715 , for example.
