robbiey60
Hi guys So horn sizing on the reference speakers? Here is what I think I know so please correct me if I am wrong- R82 and rf62 models and similar and their matching centers all have a 6" horn. R52 etc have a 5" horn. Rf42 etc have a 4" horn? Here is what I do not know- New rp models, I am assuming and hoping the rp280f and rp260f still have the 6" horn? How about the new centers? Any ideas on the horn sizes for the rp250c, rp440c and rp450c? My friend has rp260f and rp250c but I have not yet measured them. Also the rp250f I would assume this has a 5" horn but once again do not know. Anyone here have a definitive answer on horn sizing through the generations?? Moderators Youthman Posted February 13, 2016 Moderators Share Posted February 13, 2016 I'm not seeing any mention of horn sizes for the new premiere speakers either. It seems they have smaller horns at least where the circular part of the horn is.
Scrappydue
The rf/rc series from before, the horns are not as big as the driver until you get to the 6.5" woofer model. Judging by images on google the RP series seem to have the same size horn as driver for each model I looked up of the centers.
mattSER
Yes, the RF-62 and RF-82 had the same size horn. However, the RP-280f has a larger 8" horn than the RP-260f's 6" horn.
Don Richard
Horns are rated by cutoff frequency and coverage angle. Horns with lower cutoff frequencies are larger than horns with higher cutoff frequencies. The crossover frequencies will give an idea of what the cutoff frequencies are. Fc will be about an octave lower than the crossover frequency, give or take a little.

That could be the decider between those 2 where as in the past it has been recommended that if using a sub there is minimal difference between the 6.5 and 8" speakers.

Owned both of them also. I still would rather put saved money towards better center or sub. Edited February 14, 2016 by Scrappydue
