PrestonTom
Hey guys I am cleaning out the basement. When I built my Jubilee clones, I built them as single driver bass bins that could be stacked. I built six but I only need four. The two extra were envisioned to be either a center channel or rear channels. My new listening room is small and does not require a center channel. So I have these two half bins left over and they are now for sale. The geometry is the same as a factory built bass bin but the height is scaled down so it only has a single driver. IOW, they are about 40 inches wide and 24 inches deep, but the bin is only 21inches tall and not 42 inches tall. The other aspects of the bin, are as outlined in the JAES article by Delgado & Klipsch. When two half bins are stacked on top of one another, the frequency response and impedance plots look like the real deal (IOW, a full height bass bin). When a single bin is measured the output is less, of course and is to be expected. Also the peaks and dips at 100, 200 & 300 Hz due to the undersized mouth are a bit more pronounced (by a couple of dB). This is also to be expected. They sound great and I have used them with various horns including Klipsch K-402, Klipsch K-510 (the 402's little brother) and the Electro-Voice HP 640 (one of the great deals that few folks know about). The crossover settings for the two Klipsch horns would be the same as those used for the factory bass bin (just add an extra 3 dB of gain) The mounting hardware for the drivers, the foam lining, and the 1/4 spacer ring, and binding posts remain on the cabinets. The other issue is that the cabinets are "raw looking". The are made of MDF, well-braced and the edges have been rounded over. The outside is painted semi-gloss back. If you want to pretty them up, I suggest gluing some 1/4 hardwood ply and finish to suit your taste. Now for the bad news. This half cabinets are heavy and awkward to move. So shipping is not realistic. The transaction needs to be done as a local deal where you can come and fetch them. Certainly I will help you carry them to your vehicle (they easily fit in a SUV etc). That is the best I can do. In the photo above, two of the half-height cabinets are stacked (and now looks and functions like a "regular" factory bass bin). If you look in the middle, you will see the "base" that functions as a panel to get into the access hatch for the woofer. I'll show more of this later. The price for a pair of half-height cabinets is rock bottom - you take them away. That's right, they are free (woofers not included) (revised) These are located in Groton CT (just off exit 89 I95 zip: 06355). This is near Foxwoods Casino and is about 2 hours from New York and Boston or about 1 hour from New Haven, Hartford and Providence. Please PM me if you are interested or if you have any questions about whether these would be appropriate fro your application. Thanks for looking, -Tom September 23rd revision: Lowered Price ..... just come and get them (both half bins, drivers not included). Let me make it very simple ... The bass bins are free! Obviously, since I am giving these away, you would need to pick them up. I will not ship. If you also want the pair of K-31 drivers, that is a separate deal. The pair of woofers would cost $275. PrestonTom
This is what it could look like if you added a K-510 horn on top. Of course you would want to make a cabinet to house the little guy (9 x15 inches). It gives a sense of the size, and could still fit under your HT screen. PrestonTom
This what the bottom looks like where the access hatch is. The insides are all primed with white paint and there is dampening foam included and the 1/4 inch spacer to offset the driver. There are 8 insert nuts ("hurricane" nuts) to bolt the woofer into. PrestonTom
The cabinet sits on a 3/4 inch base (the same size as the bottom of the cabinet). the white portion is a 3/4 inch plate that fits into the access hatch. Surrounding the plate is foam gasket material that seals any air leaks. The weight of the cabinet ensures a tight seal. I have checked for any leaks with an impedance plot, and every thing is nice and tight. Edited February 24, 2016 by PrestonTom
PrestonTom
This is the other side of the base (that faces the floor). There are four bolts (recessed into the base) that attach the base to the cabinet bottom (which has corresponding hurricane nuts to catch the bolts). If you want, you can pretty up with base with hardwood edging for a more finished look. Edited February 24, 2016 by PrestonTom

PrestonTom
Neat idea and great solution for a Jubilee center channel! As much as I would like to, I can't take credit for the original idea of using it as a center channel. Let's just say that I am good listener. JL Sargent
It's always logistics. I'm interested and probably 1200+ miles from you.
PrestonTom
It's always logistics. I'm interested and probably 1200+ miles from you. JL, let me give you my perspective. Yes, 1200 miles is a large number. However, 1200 is only a couple of hundred more than 1000. 1000 is only a couple of hundred more than 800. 800 is only a couple of hundred more than 600. 600 is only a couple of hundred more than 400. 400 is only a couple of hundred more than 200. My gosh. Only 200 miles away. Geese Lousie, you can pick them up and be home for supper. So what is the big deal? Think it over. The logic works. I know, since it has gotten me in trouble a number of times. -Tom Edited February 27, 2016 by PrestonTom

PrestonTom
Hey Guys, I am bumping this thread. It is a nice weekend in New England. Great time to take a drive and pick up your "spring project". You might even be able to convince me to sell a K-510 horn (the little brother of the big K-402) with a JBL 2445 driver. Good luck, -Tom

PrestonTom
Just a note to those interested. There are folks interested, but are up in the air due to logistical reasons. That is understandable since these are big cabinets. So the reminder is that this is being done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
PrestonTom
revised .... This is painful for me and I hate to see them go unloved, but my basement is bursting at the seams. These would be a perfect solution for someone interested in a center channel or some great rear/side channels. Add a high frequency section and crossover and you are all set. These need to go to a good home, soon.
