Any Formula 1 Fans?

Any F1 or IndyCar fans on here? IndyCar had it's 1st race of the year last Sunday, F1 starts this weekend.

I'm wondering how the new U.S. based Haas team will do in F1? Their practice times have been decent.

Im also hoping the McLaren/Honda team ups it's game this year. They're two of the most prestigious names in F1, and it's alarming they did so poorly last year. I know Honda doesn't like to lose.

I like to watch the races in my HT, but do not consider myself a big fan as I don't know beans about a lot of the tech or off track issues.  I do wish that the teams were more evenly matched as the races are definitely boring most of the time due to the winner being established in qualifying.  The announcers do a decent job trying to keep interest and the feeds from F1 will often focus on anywhere in the race that there is any possibility of drama.  All in all a beautiful spectacle for most races, but not very competitive.  Hopefully, more competitive this year.

Here - open wheel in general, F1 in particular. Attended about half-dozen races in Indy. Have yet to get to Austin. Big push to get there this year. But there was nothing like Indy when you could roam the infield, pick out a nice berm close to a few turns and enjoy. I'm sure some of berms we found weren't more than 20 yards from the track. And next to the thunder of Live Top Fuel cars, the shriek of a V10 at 19000 rpm is something to behold. Those are two sounds/feels that TV cannot do justice. The new turbo engines leave a lot to be desired for the senses. But no doubt F1 are the bad-assess of racing engineering.

Yes. I like fast cars that can turn.....both left AND right.

Big F1 fan... I've been lucky to see F1 races in Indy and in its return to COTA in Austin and have been watching since the mid 80's. Loved watching Indy Car as a kid (AJ Foyt era 70's-80's), but I don't follow it at all anymore.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway definitely has that nostalgic feel to it, but the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin puts it to shame as far as racing facilities go. And there are many places at COTA where you are very close to the track. MotoGP was also great fun to watch in Austin. And nothing against the city of Indianapolis, but the city of Austin wins that battle every time.

And I agree about the sounds of Top Fuel and the old V-10's... Nothing like it in person. I'm also a big fan of the NHRA and have been attending races at the Texas Motorplex since before Eddie Hill went 4.99.

I hope HAAS has a good showing this year and scores some points. And as a fan of Alonso, I hope he has a much improved car to drive this year. Looking forward to watching the race this weekend.

Love F1. ^ races are close because the cars are pretty evenly matched with the FIA rules. Really showcases the best drivers.

Haven't watched in a while as I refuse to pay for a television subscription just to get the races. So I typically only get to see the 4 races a year on normal local channel broadcast.

Does anyone know of a safe online place to watch? Something where I'm not going to get a virus or Penguin porn viruses, or bank account hacked?

I thought there would be fans around here, I know Gilbert is also. I really want to get to Austin for that race, maybe this year.

It's a shame Indy lost the F1 race, they were at 30 mill sanctioning fee and Bernie wanted 35. The first year F1 race at Indy drew over 200k people, the largest crowd ever for an F1 race.

You're right Richie, those cars screaming down the front stretch full throttle for 22 seconds is a beautiful song, I miss it.

I really enjoyed the first ever Indy GranPrix.  I like F1 races even though there is only 1 in the USA and I've never been to it. I was at the Indy 500 when AJ Foyt won his 4th time. I have been to 2 supercross races and Chad Reed won both. I love Irish style road racing for bikes. I was contemplating going to Isle of Man TT Late May this year, but I talked myself out of it because after all you are basically leaning against a barbwire fence watching bikes go by at 200 miles an hour on a 36 mile track. You see so little and wait so long, and when you do see something its more of a blur. :)

I am going to try to make an F1 this year. I sent my son and a friend to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone while we were in the UK last summer, and now I wish I would have gone. For those of you who like F1, here is the schedule: https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/championship/races/2016.html

I could live on Isle of Man.  My kind of place. Taxes are low, people are laid back, and there are fish n chips and Guinness at every pub.

Those bike races are crazy, and those flippin guys have some guts!  Make this full screen and watch the whole lap. It will get your blood pumping...

Gene Hass's team should fair well for being a new entry, they've got a special arrangement that extends deeper with Ferrari than being just an engine supplier. Hass have their own wind tunnel, and their intent is to use F1 to show case their machining abilities. They snagged Roman Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez for the driver line up, and thankfully Roman's teething days are over, and he's matured nicely.

Honda is still down on power, as after testing in Spain about 1 month ago, Alonso was talking about retiring when his contract is up, and trying Le Mans. To say he's disgusted would be an understatement. Jenson on the other hand was a bit more diplomatic, but there's no BS in Alonso words.... their team is going to suck.

Most are predicting that Mercedes will be the team to beat again this year, and I hope Nico can take it to Hamilton and make it more interesting. Hamilton is just so damn good, that I dont' think Nico can do it, but I hope he does.

They are saying Ferrari (Sebastian) may be a regular splitter for the front row, and Kimi is on the bubble and needs to pick up the pace.

I'll be watching the Australian GP bright and early, or I may go fishing instead and let the DVR do it's thing..... eitherway, I'll be watching the race.

Cheers

Yea those IOM racers are a different breed. That race will probably be outlawed soon, or at least watered down a bit. Back in the day when men were men, the Motorcycle GP racers would race there. Agostini even won some races there. Can you imagine if Rossi, Lorenzo, Marquez or any current MotoGP racer tried that? I'll bet they would lose their contract.

Gilbert, I know the Honda boys aren't happy, at least Alonso and Button still have their humor. Like sneaking on the podium last year for a photo, and saying that's the only way they'll get a podium pic with their current car.
