zobsky
After a hiatus of about a year, I'm getting back to finishing up my DIY 2 way Klipsch Belle project. I originally built them to be ported (using the DJK mod) . However, with about a year of idle time to corrupt my thoughts, I've wondering if ultimately, leaving them stock (sealed rear chamber) and using them with a separate subwoofer for the first 1.5 - 2 octaves might ultimately be a better idea. I'm open to either idea (xover will be all active) so I'd like to hear ideas. I feel (hope) confident I can design / construct whatever type of sub I need (horn, TH, PPSL, vented) so no worries in that department. Thank You

zobsky
No-one? - Looking through the forums since my last post, I think I saw some posts by ClaudeJ recommending the 2nd approach (stock bass bin) + sub. totalcomfort
Keep them stock let them do what they do best, build or buy a horn sub.
jason str
Adding EQ down low to that driver is a bad idea, build yourself a double 8" Table Tuba or any size THT to accompany your mains for best results. The F-20 will work too if you have the space.
jwc
add a sub
WMcD
Keep the classic PWK Belle design. Plus sub. WMcD
zobsky
Thanks, I already use a single table tuba sub with my line arrays so that makes things easier. FWIW, .. this was the state of the project before I had to take some months off . Not really a classic Belle design but somewhat faithful to the original. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/158061-ported-belle/ I'm taking my time veneering / finishing this project Edited April 13, 2016 by zobsky
jason str
You will probably need to double up your Table Tuba for best results but i like where you are going.
zobsky
Proof of progress Interrupted on various occasions over the last year. Reading the various threads on porting la-scala belle cabinets, it has been reported that the bass extends lower but is less punchy. While that's technically a good thing, are there any (who have tried the mod) that regret the loss of punch Thank You. stereohermit01
With the 10 inch ports , it lacked punch. With the 7-inch ports however it had great punch, extension and less colored in the upper base to lower mid.
The Dude
Here is mine, I am running a TH Spud Clone. Bass to me is good, but I might not know what good bass is. To me, at this point its all about the mid/hf horn. Why i will be looking for another EV hp640. It needs less equing and the sound is larger. Thanks
stereohermit01
No I did not run a high pass filter or boost. The results I got were great. I even got rid of my subwoofer system and I'm happy now with the full range bass horn. (Well, sorta fullrange anyway.)
ClaudeJ1
I vote for sub also. Not a tapped horn, though. Tuba or F-20 and cross at 80-100 Hz. Build twins.

zobsky
I vote for sub also. Not a tapped horn, though. Tuba or F-20 and cross at 80-100 Hz. Build twins. The general impression I get from this thread is that the ported version can work well, but using a sub with a conventional (non ported) bass bin is ultimately superior . Luckily, I can try it both ways. BTW, I'm using your favorite woofer the kappa 15c
