I received an email this morning from Monoprice advertising the Monolith 200 x 7 Class A/B Amp they will be carrying as of 04/26/16.

A quick google and I found this article in the AVS forum with more details and specs.

Looks like it might be a great competitor to Emotiva and Outlaw Amps.

Regardless of the price, the 200 watts is all 7 channels driven, at 8 ohms, there are no fans, and there's dual toroidal transformers.

Bad mamma jamma.

To put it in perspective, this is what the inside of a $2,400 Marantz MM8077 looks like.

It looks similar to the inside of my Sherbourn 7/2011a amp except it had 7 Monoblocks housed in one chasis with 7 Teroidal Transformers.  Probably should not have sold it but after buying the LaScala Trio, I just no longer heard any difference between my Onkyo TX-NR5008 and using it with the Sherbourn.

EDIT: thought it was the same thing as this, but ATI has the base price at $1,495.  That's only for two channels.  The price doubles if you get 7 channels.  Otherwise it seems to be about the same thing.

I think ATI might be the culprit.

It looks like we have here an ATI AT2007 fraternal twin or one of their step down models.

Sorry can't post a link from work computer.

Yeah, it seems as the only thing they did is get rid of the balanced inputs.

Other than the XLR options, the new Emotiva XPA line looks nearly identical as well. I will wait to see what I hear once these things start selling. The new Emotiva amps are getting rave reviews from AXPONA and the CES show.

I think ATI uses military spec circuit boards as well.  Costs could be cut by not using that caliber of board.  I also think the ATI warranty is more than double that of the other amps.  They may add a premium to the cost of the amp to cover repairs down the road similar to purchasing a service contract with your amp.

My guess is that the hardware isn't all that different, but Monoprice committed to buying a ton and got the hookup, plus are happy with low markups, hence the lower price.  Of course to do so they had to rebrand it as to not compete with the normal ATI stuff.  Just a guess.

This amp sure has the guts.

14566_05.png

Weight------------------------------93.2 lbs.

Power Capacitance--------------156,800µF (22,400µF per channel)

Toroidal Transformers-----------2 (1,230VA and 1,025VA)

Also, it looks like there is (6) output transistors per channel or maybe even (6) pairs per channel.  Can't really tell.
