Imaging Problem....

SWL

Recommended Posts

My center image slightly favors the left side and it drives me nuts. I've tried all the basic things I can think of to try and fix this problem but does anyone have anything to suggest might be causing this?

I've tried cleaning all my connections, changed interconnects, etc. My center image is normally right on up until a couple of months ago. I developed a sinus allergy a few months ago and its taking FOREVER to completely go away. Sometimes my right ear rings since this sinus thing started. I'm wondering if this is actually what's causing the imbalance......might have to get another set of gold ears over here....[emoji33]

Bingo. ;)  :D

Stopped up ear, sinus issues can affect imaging.

Experiment with toe in/toe out just slightly until center lines up.

Also, is there anybody in your house that doesn't have a sinus problem who can try 2 good ears? That will rule out a problem with one of the speakers.

No doubt your sinus issue could be at fault. Is it all tracks that you play or just some?

What I have found that works quite well is pulling one speaker out, the one you want the center image to go towards, like 1/2" at a time until it is right. Or you could push the other speaker back, the one you want the center image to go away from, and do the same thing.

This sinus thing really sucks. For about 2 months straight it felt like I needed to pop my ears and I could not pop them.

I get the same thing sometimes along with an earache.

Does go away after a while.

Is one side of your room more reflective than the other? I have a window with drapes on one side and a wall on the other and I have to run my speakers about +3db on the drapes side to balance the imaging.

I hear what your saying....but I don't have that issue.

Currently Im running my solid state setup and the imaging favors the left side. When I run my tube setup, the imaging favors the right.

Man, my ears have been messed up for about three months now from a sinus cold.

It's SLOWLY been getting better, but my left ear is still afflicted with ringing, higher noise floor, lower noise ceiling, and that stuffed feeling that drives me crazy trying to pop it.

I haven't enjoyed, or really listened to, my speakers in months! :'(

Are you taking anything for it?

For me this all started last Thanksgiving....had a cold, no big deal. Lasted about a week and it was gone. I noticed I had some crackling going on in my ears, no big deal but by the first week of January it kicked in big time. I wanted to pop my ears n the worst way. Just simply talking....or worst yet talking on the phone is like the sound wouldn't get out of my head. Incredibly frustrating. Anything that raises my heartbeat makes it like my heart is beating inside my head. Laying in bed at night keep thinking someone is pounding at the front door. I could maybe deal with that but when my stereo imaging is out of whack we got some serious problems.[emoji39]

Went to the Doc and they got me on Sudafed and Flonase. After about a month of that crap with next to no improvement, I've been going it alone. Improvement.....but very little and sooooo slow. I hate having medicine in me.

So right now I've got the right channel gain on my amp three clicks hotter than the left and it's not too bad.

In the demo i got the sound balance was perfect. Stand in same room facing backwards and listen to hear if the bias shifted with u or not?

Yeah, it's not off by a mile but it's just that little bit that gets under my skin because I'm mental when it comes to this stuff.[emoji33]

Good to know that I didn't waste my time going to a doctor. Through my own research, I found those very same "remedies". Tried the OTC Sudafed(psuedoephedrine) with virtually no results. Also tried Afrin because I didn't want to get a prescription for a steroidal nasal spray.

I read that if the problem is still there after 6 months, then I need to visit an ENT to discuss further options...

This is a valuable procedure that should be done even if you get over your sinus problem.
