The Dude
Good thread as I am currently wondering why I purchased the crap I currently have. I have purchased the RCA/Lowes brand, which I thought were decent. Except for the set screws, so tiny you need jewelers tools to tighten. http://www.lowes.com/pd_248214-60784-364827-V5___?productId=1070635&pl=1&Ntt=banna+plugs Then I tired some Monoprice ones http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9436 They are similar to some of the ones posted here, with the screw down barrel. I have a project coming up, and will give some of these new ones a try. By the way does anyone have an issue with the banana plug being to long for the socket. That seems to be the problem with both brands I recently tried. Edited April 26, 2016 by duder1982
wvu80
I have edited my post and I hope that you find that is more acceptable to you. That was a good edit, Moray. Well done. +++ Back to the topic: I like hearing all opinions on banana plugs. I have banana plugs on everything and I am never satisfied for some stupid reason and I'm always looking for another one. Within a reasonable budget of course.

moray james
These are cheap plugs that I use and like. They don't get loose and make a secure connect. Price $ 6-7 for four. Although they are not need, it sure makes life a bit easier and looks a little more classy. I have used this style of plug too. Given that almost all of these are made from brass alloy stock of some sort I find that over time the prongs can compress together and so loosen a little. You can snug them back up bu pushing the prongs apart at the tip by inserting the edge of a blade. I found that an exacto blade is about the right thickness. Overall a pretty good style of plug. MercedesBerater
These GLS plugs do have a small set screw & a dual threaded portion. Basically you out wire in... Set screw. Then a compression fitting clamps down on the wire jacket.. Feels very secure. Here's my finished product.

Pre tin the connector and then the wire as that makes the final solder joint together much easier. CECAA850
I've used the Monoprice ones and they're OK at best. If you remove them a few times, you have to tighten the threaded assemblies. I've threatened to put lock tight on them but it was just an idle threat. If I used them a lot, I would.
