Catching up just now on the day's news from home.

see: http://globalnews.ca/news/2660817/canadian-hostage-john-ridsdel-executed-in-philippines-after-ransom-deadline-passes/

The victim here; John Ridsdel, worked with my late father at the same newspaper in Calgary, Alberta for a few year's before dad retired.

When will we in the west finally say enough?

This is a horrible story and a cautionary tale when traveling. I have a distant relative that was a mercenary for a while after his tours in Vietnam and he knew some friends that did work in the Philippians for an incident similar to this but it was out of revenge, i think he said the client paid a sum for every Muslim head or something like that. Either way its just more senseless violence.

So very true!

I used to work for an ABC affiliate in the '70s-'80s, and met national news crews who later lost their lives overseas. So very sad. The last couple of years have been very bad for reporters/videographers and their crews all over the world.

I will still be retiring to the Philippines, in about five more years. I know others who will also be retiring there. I am doubtful it will be all settled down and resolved by then, but there is always hope.

Sorry to hear your family knew him Wolfbane. I read all about this despicable act yesterday. I too am Canadian and it really bothers me to see how all westerners are being targeted abroad.

Not trying to politicize this story but our western leaders are too PC to take any substantial actions against anyone responsible. In fact BO and JT are two peas in a pod, they are both willing to accept unknown commodities into our countries. Doing this they feel they can place feathers in their cap showing the world they did the right thing. Soon the terrorists will be among us and these tragedies will be happening in abundance on our own soil. Much like the Ottawa attack two years ago and the San Bernardino attacks of recent memory, it proves they are already here.

That's why terrorism is such a successful strategy.  And why whoever the opposition was would be just as lame.  What are you going to do in another sovereign country?   Get permission (or not) and create even more inflammatory havoc?

I am not sure you want to go there Gilbert given what happened in the previous administration in regard to Terrorism...Btw, this isn't an American story and it sure isn't one we should be getting any blame for.

North America, South America, last time I checked, Canadians were American??

You are correct in that the United States of America doesn't share any blame in this, but last time I checked, 2 wrongs don't make a right, so how do you justify anything the current POS has done because someone else might have done something wrong in the past??

Just keep it to your synaptically limited little self ;)

Of course two wrongs don't make a right and I think the current POTUSA is trying to make up from the wrongs of his predecessor...

That would be your prerogative to believe that but like believing in the tooth fairy, you would still be wrong.

the approval ratings show that the majority believes otherwise.

This seems like an unnecessary personal attack which of course doesn't have merit given our past conversations--I'm not going there and never have.

Oh yes you have, don't be an outright liar on top of being a hypocrite!
