The Price Paid for Irrational Belief

The National Vaccination Center also has information state by atate.

Here is a link to their site describing the new California law which removes all exemptions for the required vaccinations.

The twist in California is that a child A over 12 years of age can get vaccinated for STDs WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT.

HPV is not a required vaccination in most states, or maybe any states.

That is a real issue.

The leading cause for cervical cancer in women and throat cancer in men is the lack of a HPV in one or more sexual partners. Ask the actor Michael Douglas whether he cares if children in this day and age should require parental consent prior to getting this particular vaccination.

To clarify; as in not having had the HPV vaccine. So yes, you are at considerably more risk of incurrring cervical cancer if female and throat cancer (if male) without the vaccine. I believe the leading cause of throat cancer in mentoday is contact exposure to someone with HPV.

Meanwhile up to 440,000 people die a year from preventable medical accidents and mistakes by those who placed their trust in doctors:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/leahbinder/2013/09/23/stunning-news-on-preventable-deaths-in-hospitals/#ca6a0dbad08d

Funny how we all like to pile on blame and hate on one family who got thrown in the news, I wonder if any of these hundreds of thousands of people being buried every year get their own news stories.

But hey, if I am damaged by a private vaccine company I can sue for damages in a court right? Oh yeah, they came up with a law in 1986 preventing people from doing that with the new "Vaccine Courts"

http://www.uscfc.uscourts.gov/vaccine-programoffice-special-masters

So we are to trust the same pharmaceutical companies who spend billions to con Americans into buying pills with relentless TV ads and constantly skirt regulations with a product that has been completely immune to any sort of civil damages for 3 decades? Also funny since this law has been passed granting immunity to these companies that the Vaccine schedule has tripled from 10 to 36 shots by age 6. What incentive do these companies have to thoroughly and independently test their new products if there is no legal recourse when people are damaged by them?

I think rational people have a right to be suspicious of all this. And for the record, it was Manuka honey that saved my Grandfather's life from MRSA that was eating its way to his brain after all the conventional medicine solutions failed, even the experimental stuff that made him stop eating and cost $200 a pill.

Necessities for life goes beyond food, water and shelter when you are critically ill and a toddler. Medical treatment in Canada is free to all.

I was kind of thinking about the vaccination and not so much about being required to treat a symptom later if needed. To me that would be a whole other argument against the parents, not getting the vaccination is not a guarantee to get the symptom, but not treating a known illness is a different responsibility.

It's against the law (I think) to commit suicide, but it's not against the law to not treat a disease that will kill you. I guess everything just depends ?

But without the doctors many more would die. Anyway that's why they call it a practice.

I think with HPV, as distinguished from long standing vaccines for other diseases, parents may want more input into their child getting an HPV vaccine:

As of September 1, 2015, there had been 295 claims filed in the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) for injuries and deaths following HPV vaccination, including 13 deaths and 282 serious injuries.

Using the MedAlerts search engine, as of Sept. 30, 2015, there were a total of 37,474 vaccine reaction reports made to the federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) associated with Gardasil vaccinations, including 209 deaths. There were a total of 3,119 vaccine adverse reaction reports made to VAERS associated with Cervarix vaccinations, including 16 deaths. (Merck’s Gardasil vaccine, which was the first HPV vaccine licensed in the U.S., has the majority of the HPV vaccine market in the U.S.).

Forced medication saves the herds, while a few individuals are adversely-affected.  That's the underlying rationale.  Some people are good with that.  Others are not.

This is not much different than the concept of democracy (majority rules), coupled with something like the Bill of Rights.

Some people think the herd is more important than the individual in these types of scenarios.  Others think the individual is the most important.

It is good to have strong advocates on both sides.  For best results, somebody has to be involved and vigilant.

This particular case is not directly involved with vaccinations but with lack of common sense medical knowledge and misplaced trust.  How many here overeat, over drink, smoke and/or otherwise partake in conduct known to be unhealthy?  Do you really understand the degree of health peril you adopt with your behavior?  Do you understand the costs to you personally and (now w/Obamacare) to society in general?

These parents made very wrong choices and the outcome was tragic but not entirely preventible.  Meningitis can be very acute in kids and even timely care may have saved the childs life but resulted in retardation.  Criminal?  Well that is hard to say - in hind sight better actions are often simple to recognize.  During the event, less so.

Sadly we have a system that allows for products/services which imply an unproven degree of health benefit.  There is an entire industry dedicated to developing and marketing these quasi medical products/services and plenty of pseudo-practitioners willing to sell and apply them.  Many verge on charlatanism.  Yet we have millions of willing buyers ready to accept simplistic panacea solutions; a pill that will make you skinny or a drink to cure arthritis or even cancer.  And yes, way too many apply the same errant logic to their children.  These legal, yet peculiar medical avocations make clear and practical medical decisions less clear and most people are (sadly) not smart enough to know the differences.

There are plenty of ways most of us could improve our own health maintenance that would reap genuine results.  Some of us know them and decline to accept the discipline required to apply them.  Others simply do not know.  Would you know what the early symptoms of meningitis were for yourself or a child?  I have seen people die from meningitis that resulted from infected teeth.  They simply waited too long and the disease was too aggressive to treat.  IMHO every parent of an obese child is a negligent parent, yet culturally that is becoming a trend............  an extremely unhealthful trend.

You helped me quit smoking 10 years ago.

You bring up thenothwr side of the coin that is equally, if not more important.

The irrational belief that smoking wont significantly impact you, or morbid obesity, or whatever.

"Cultural" is the correct term.  It is learned behavior.  Typically, much of it is learned as an infant or child, just watching our parents and our friends' parents, as well as adults at large (no pun intended).
