Pete H
These had another price drop and are down to $195 so I just ordered another one. IMHO, this has great applications for any of the horn sub projects that have been done and this will be my third so just thought I would pass it along.
teaman
My subs plate amp just died. Would you suggest this amp to replace it? Mine is a Speakercraft BassX-12. 12 inch with a 200-250 watt amp. Thanks
MookieStl
I agree with Pete, this is a good sub amp and at the new price, a very good deal. Having it set up with the rest of your components makes it so much easier to adjust the x over and gain without crawling around behind you subs. I have one driving a couple tapped horns and it is more than enough power. It's specs are right in line with the plate amp you want to replace teaman, should work great. I also have the big brother to this one the SA1000 and have been running that one for years with no problem. They do not like low ohm loads though. If your looking to drive a 2 ohm load, these aren't for you.

IMHO, once you get an amp like this that allows for simple, on the fly adjustments, you will be hooked. 5 year warranty on top of that and I don't think you can go wrong.
wvu80
Compare to the Inuke 1000 w/dsp for $200. Similar 300 wpc power into 4 Ohm and features. Inuke 1000 with NO DSP is $150, For me the Inuke 3000 (no dsp) would be a better value for $30 more. It's 880 wpc x2 into 4 ohms. I'm not sure how much the DSP is needed for low power subs. I'm saying it's not needed, I'm saying I don't know. +++ If all you need is a plate amp w/300 watts, wouldn't something like this Yung SD300 do the trick for $120? http://www.parts-express.com/yung-sd300-6-300w-class-d-subwoofer-plate-amplifier-module-with-6-db-at-30-hz--301-510 Edited April 29, 2016 by wvu80
teaman
I just nabbed a Klipsch Reference 12 from Fry's last night so my sub rebuild will have to wait. $198 delivered was worth it for a complete powered subwoofer instead of spending that much for just a plate amp.

SWL
.....not that the EP4000s don't do a good job, I'd just like to free them up for other projects. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G920R4 using Tapatalk The Dayton will work but you should probably hook them up in series. Horn loading will increase impedance of your 4 Ohm drivers but probably not enough to wire them in parallel on a 4 Ohm rated amplifier. The 1000 watt unit was designed by Bob Carver, not sure about the SA230 but it sounds good even if its not.

The 230 will outperform the Behringer when you're comparing the two, running one channel on the Behringer (didn't try it bridged, as I had already decided that I liked the 230 much more) Keep in mind that all I've run with the 230 are a couple of F-20's and a SPUD so depending on what this is being hooked up to, I couldn't say if it would have adequate power or if the 1000 would be in order. The 230 sounds great in my application and I can adjust on the fly with ease which is what drew me to this amp in the first place.

derrickdj1
You should be able to get the same power from the SA 230 as the I Nuke +/- DSP. Almost all commercial or ID subs have some DSP applied on the low end. The I Nuke runs cooler and not having an amp in the sub is technically superior. I owned the SA 230 and it is a decent bargin like the I Nuke. As far as adjusting on the fly, there are more options on the I Nuke.

They are a non issue anymore. You have to be running sine waves at high volumes to hear them. And if your doing that your speakers and subs will be loud enough you won't hear them anyways.
