What AVR do people on here use/recommend?

I've read a lot about how some receiver's don't play well with heritage speakers and I was just curious, which ones you guys recommend? I am talking about for home theater and music use. Right now I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-90 and I think it sounds pretty good but I kind of just jumped into it without that much research because I found it on a really good sale at bestbuy because they were getting rid of all their 2015 models. . The more I research I read Marantz might be the best way to go. What do you guys say?

I was actually looking at the Marantz SR6010 one thing I really like about it, is it has 7.2 channel pre out's which really opens the door for expansion if I so chose.

What do you guys think? What brand do you guys know matches well with Klipsch Heritage? Do you think it's even worth looking at a different receiver?

The only reason I am considering this is because my brother has a really old receiver that doesn't support HDCP 2.2 4k@60hz or any of that and he is thinking of getting a new one so I said I could just buy a new one myself and give him mine.

I am using the Denon X-4000 which I am eight out of ten star happy with. There are many things about it that I don't understand. The manual is about 1.5" thick  (I downloaded it) and some of the explanations are somewhere in the twilight zone. The combinations of adjustments are staggering and mathematically more than the odds of winning the Powerball lottery.

I use an NAD T758. It is the best sounding receiver I have heard.

I have an older T773 AVR and T175HD pre/pro and could not agree more.

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but is an "audio first" design.

That is the main reason why I have not "updated" to a 4K and Atmos model.

It seems to me like my LaScalas like big beefy amps with lots of overhead, and not a lot of digital processing.

If you just had a big stereo amp connected through your mains that you could switch to for music, you would be surprised. Even better a beefy tube amp like a McIntosh MC275. Niles makes some switching stuff that can allow you to share those speakers with the main AVR.

I didn't realize NAD made AVR's I thought they only made 2 channel integrated and amps, that's good to know. The only thing I can see though about the NAD's is they don't have 4k support which I do require.  It seems like no one here really has mentioned Marantz. Is that brand all hype? What do you guys think as far as Marantz vs Pioneer?

Ya, this is another thing I have considered, that's another reason I was considering upgrading to something with pre outs I wouldn't mind getting a nice external amp for the La Scala's.

Though the spec's on the La Scala's say the maximum continuous wattage rating for them is 100 which is what my current receiver pushes. Would it be bad to push more continuous power to them than the recommended?

I can think of a few guys using Pioneer avr's with their Cornwalls, LaScala's and Khorn.  So, the Pioneer  can be the right choice.  Some avr's are described as having a warm sound.  The Pioneer sound is not what I would call warm.  It is ultra clean, black noise floor and made my Forte's shine.

The best thing to do is to demo a couple of models from BB for two weeks.  Return the ones you don't like.  I did this for a  couple of months before I went with the Pioneer.  Take a look at the forum members signatures, we are all over the place on how we power our speakers.

The Sherbourn SR-120 is far and away the best AVR I have ever heard. I own four of these right now.

Full rated power with 125 watts across the front stage and 75 real watts across the other four. This receiver sounds amazing. It has everything short of Atmos, which is not that important to me. The sound quality is second to none and the power is real. Aaron, if you can find one....grab one.

That Sherbourn is a Real Beast--I'd love to have one--just too much money for me--I'm poor..

I bought my first one brand new from Emotiva when the Sherbourn line was discontinued for $459. The other three I bought from Ebay for under $400 each. Considering it sold for three grand originally I consider it a steal to buy them when I can find them. WVU has one as well, he picked it up off Ebay recently for dirt cheap. It really is an amazing receiver.

Dave had some problems with his. It was a refurbished factory one. I hope I am not speaking out of turn, but I think he's going to end up making either a door stop or an anchor out of his.

No doubt the pieces sold recently on Ebay were not properly tested. Dave actually has his set up now. I have never even tested any of my analog inputs as mine are all set up in HT's via HDMI or toslink. Dave's set up is rather odd for a seven channel receiver but it seems to serve it's purpose over there. I know you guys tried to trouble shoot it, and obviously the remote problems only add to the already present issues. It sucks when you buy something that has been misrepresented, although he made out alright.

Just to add, I own four of these and none have had a single problem. Fingers crossed, because you never know. So far so good

A vote for Yamaha here, they have a Natural sound :D

Ya, I've had yamaha before and have always been happy with them. I just had them for so long I wanted to try something new.

I know what you mean. I've had a Yamaha for so long, I want to try something different :D

Unless something has changed since Thursday afternoon, his unit is flaking out in other ways now. This problem has to do with the volume going up and down or something. I had his unit in my shop for about a week and verified that the remote control interface is dead in the front and in the back. His intentions were to use the unit as his AVR in his 5.1. Because of the remote control problems, he could not but instead decided to use it as an amp for his computer. Now that isn't viable. Like I said earlier, it's an anchor.  Sorry...
