Montego
I think i've narrowed my search down to these two. A new 7702 sells for about the same as a used 8801 according to recent observations. I've read that the 8801 is built better but the 7702 has newer components that make it sound better - sounds like a contradiction. I'm not interested in Atmos at this time so that doesn't affect my choice. Any insights are appreciated.
Schu
8801 was always very high on my list... even though the 7702 is newer. I would buy one if I have 5 monoblocks Go with the 8801.
Montego
I'm still using my AV9000 and MA500 monoblocks.
Paducah Home Theater
Do you plan to use balanced XLR cables or just RCA's? If you're set on one or the other, the choice gets a little easier. Functionality is nearly identical between current models. The build quality and whatnot alone would be hard to justify the extra money in my opinion. Some guys are dead set on XLR's though and there's really only one choice for that. Edited May 3, 2016 by MetropolisLakeOutfitters
Montego
The monoblocks only have RCA inputs. One reviewer said that the room correction is better in the 7702 than previous versions.
