Islander
DWI in discussing Meyer Sound has illuminated an important development, that is Cardiod Sub Arrays. it is possible, using delay, to stack sub cabinets in what might seem bizarre configurations, and literally steer the sound with predictive software. Our small local sound company does this with standard EV QX218 bins, stacking them facing forward, backward, then the top cabinet forward again. It really works, propels the bass forwards and away from the stage, so the performers don't feel like they're being liquified on stage. It is simply amazing how they can create those nulls back stage, literally whisper quiet, with all that energy projected forward. Don't understand how it works, but it does work, like an invisible cone of silence. Travis Islander, on May 27 2016 - 12:32 PM, said: This video shows how it's done. It's a second speaker, in inverse phase with the front speaker, so the sound is cancelled out in the desired part of the stage. Cardioid Subwoofers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz2c_PjP7P8 Interestingly, the new Chrysler Pacifica uses active noise cancellation inside the vehicle. Outside noise is sent in with the phase reversed. The effect is a very quiet cabin, quieter than the effects of double-row door seals and acoustic glass windshields. It allowed Chrysler to reduce the Pacifica's overall weight, because there is less need for heavy sound absorption material. From allpar: "Active noise cancellation (ANC), on every trim level, uses four microphones to detect unwanted sounds, then combats them by playing opposite-tuned frequencies from the stereo. That let Chrysler cut the use of heavy sound dampeners." Paducah Home Theater
With them, loud is good, louder is better, quality don't matter. - Couldn't have said it better! I'm starting to come to the conclusion that most people are way more deaf than they want to believe. Things start making way more sense once you get to this point. Paducah Home Theater
I almost forgot to mention the Rodrigo y Gabriela concert I went to here. Simply amazing. Front row on the Ryman Auditorium's balcony. Don't know why all concerts can't be on that level of quality. Would love to say it was a Klipsch system but unfortunately it was a JBL VerTec line array. Now, the Ryan Adams concert in the same venue but being under the balcony was an entirely different story, completely opposite end of the spectrum.
