SWL
Just got Windows 10.....gonna start ripping in FLAC now and wanted to check out WASAPI as well. Well, I can't find WASAPI in the system so I did some searching elsewhere and came across some articles/discussions that were saying that the newer versions of Windows have improved the audio so much that bypassing the mixer is not neccessary like it was in older versions....hence, WASAPI and ASIO are not needed anymore. Is this accurate? Audio out of my computer does sound very good. It's sounds just as good if not better than my cd players except for my Jolida that has the tube output stage that puts a tube accent on the sound. Thaddeus Smith
I've found those statements to be accurate as I moved to Windows 10 from OS X. Sounds just as good through foobar as it did my mac apps.

Rjk1972
Are you talking about running straight out of your soundcard or using a separate DAC. WASAPI is still available for Windows 10. I use JRiver to a Rega DAC-r and use ASIO because of the Rega Driver but can switch to WASAPI if I like. Some sound cards default to ASIO like higher end Asus and Creative Labs. I like to bypass the mixer if only to avoid system sounds playing through my stereo. Though I don't really notice any sound difference between WASAPI or ASIO. if never tried Direct Sound or any of the others.
