timdog5000
A few years back when I originally got my RF-7 ii set up I made the decision to go to the shipping company that was holding my speakers for delivery so that I could pick them up a day early. When I got there the seven channel set up in boxes was much bigger than I had anticipated, I should've done my homework. To make matters even worse I decided to take them all out of the boxes and leave the boxes at the shipper. I was even more green then, than now so did not realize the importance the boxes would have . So, this question may have been asked before and I just did not see the answer. Can I buy a set of boxes from Klipsch and have them shipped to me? Thanks for your time!
LarryC
Call 'em up and ask, but it's probably expensive. there was a recent thread about saving boxes -- it partly boiled down to whether one has the space (attic, garage, spare rooms in the house), and whether you think you'll ever have reason to ship or move them. Having the boxes and protective packing might be an advantage, if so. However, they will take up a lot of space both in storing the boxes and having them transported. Might depend on the quality of your local movers. Edited May 31, 2016 by LarryC
Paducah Home Theater
I tried to get empty THX boxes once and couldn't. Of course I could have just talked to the wrong person but it didn't seem to be their favorite idea, plus probably wouldn't be very cost effective even if it were possible. ricktate
Well look at it like this I use to work for a company that made printed and rolled up film for chip bags,,,coffee bags etc. The packaging costs a lot the bag of chips you buy the bag cost about 20 cents probably. Coffee bags are even more they have 3 layers of film in them. I cant imagine what a speaker box and all the packing that goes inside costs.....but I bet they will tell you around 25 bucks a box. timdog5000
I do have access to some pretty sturdy boxes and all sorts of corner styrofoam, bubble wrap in all sizes and shapes and all sorts of packing material but is It the Klipsch specific box that people are wanting or they don't care as long as it's shipped safely? CECAA850
Your method would probably afford more protection than the stock boxes.
Paducah Home Theater
More important than the actual box is the styrofoam moldings, which allow it to be shipped without packing material damaging the drivers. You'll have to figure out how to do this if you use a different box and packing material.
mattSER
Contact Hexa Packaging and Supplies. They made beautiful custom boxes for my RF-35s that were superior to any factory box I've seen. The measurements of the hexa "foam" was so spot-on, and it even had separate compartments for the grills. http://www.hexaps.com
timdog5000
I think I'll try to see what I can rustle up at my works warehouse if I can find something for all four corners that will keep every side from being too close to a wall of the box and then just use a sturdy box that will fit just around those objects it should be pretty secure. When I was younger I worked for a hospital equipment rental company and we would ship equip. by air to other parts of the country daily. I got pretty good at securely shipping ventilators . I think(know) the RF-7's will be the challenge. I may have to check with the company mattSER suggested for those. Thanks all!
JiminSTL
Tim, tell you what--simply bring 'em on over to my house. No shipping. Problem solved. Heck, I'll even swing a beer or two for you as "we" get them set up over here.
timdog5000
Tim, tell you what--simply bring 'em on over to my house. No shipping. Problem solved. Heck, I'll even swing a beer or two for you as "we" get them set up over here. You see, that's why I love this forum people always willing to go the extra mile do anything they can to help out someone else willingly ;-) That one is obviously tongue-in-cheek but truer words could not be spoken about this forum. I've experienced it myself more than once in the short time I've been on here. Matter-of-fact Mr. metro offered me one heckuva deal not too long ago making no money for himself but I just couldn't make it happen . Thanks everyone! And Jim in St. Louis we need to just get that beer anyway. I end my day in Weldon Springs at least twice a week.
JohnA
if you are gonna ship them by common carrier, short the inputs with a short wire to reduce the woofers' movement.
Mallette
Up until recently having lived in large cities I found packer/shippers that could be relied on. Not cheap, but probably cheaper than boxes from Hope and a really good shipper stands behind their work. Forward Air got my K'horns to me, including packing, at a price I found hard to believe...500.00 from Denver to DFW Airport. Don't know about your situation or prices now, but St. Louis should have some options. Dave
