opusk2k9
I have to wonder if this is our Indy friend: http://www.courierpostonline.com/story/money/nation-now/2016/06/06/man-sued-30k-over-40-printer-he-sold-craigslist/85478168/ It sounds like the abusive guy I have spoken with before. It goes to show you that it is nice to have a friendly place like this to sell our gear.
Moderators Youthman Posted June 12, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 12, 2016 Are you selling a printer? If not, this probably doesn't belong in the Garage Sale
opusk2k9
There is a well known guy in the Indy area that many of us have tried to purchase from. His deals have come up in the alerts section several times, he normally is verbally abusive. This may be the same guy, so might be of interest to those that have crossed his path. However, feel free to move to the alerts section or delete entirely.
wvu80
Opus, wherever this is posted it is relevant to most of us, either directly or indirectly. This does sound like the guy we've talked about here for years, and if it is the same guy, it explains some things about his combative attitude and motivation. +++ Re: the article - That sound like a complete abuse of the court system. I can't believe a judge somewhere hasn't taken control of this. There was a guy in California who was also a serial abuser of the court system suing people over nothing. In Cali the abuse was stopped when the courts finally stepped in and required a judge to review and approve each suit BEFORE it was filed. That's what courts are for, to INTERPRET the law and ADMINISTER JUSTICE so it is not abused and innocent people are not abused. For an appeals court to allow a $30,000 judgement on a $40 purchase is patently ridiculous on its face. DizRotus
If it were only that simple. The legal system is poorly positioned to deal with intelligent crazy people. In my attorney life, I witnessed a local version of the Indy guy waste the legal system's time and money for years filing frivolous lawsuits against my client and many others. The system is intentionally established to protect the rights of all, even though it presents opportunities for abuse by lunatics. It is the civil counterpart to the criminal justice principle, "better that 10 guilty persons go free than one innocent person be convicted."Our legal system permits anyone to sue anyone for the cost of a filing fee. There is no financial risk to the abusive litigant. The threat of being held responsible for the costs of frivolous litigation is hollow. The "winners" would incur huge legal expenses to win a judgment against an uncollectable individual. Other legal systems require plaintiffs to post bonds to file litigation. Our system views such a requirement as denying the poor equal access to the courts. Putting up with crazies like this is part of the price we pay for living in a free society. Karsoncookie
Diz - What does a litigant gain when he wins against an "uncollectable"? And, woudn't it be relatively easy to discover the (probable at least ) collectability before any legal action? Just curious, Lars
DizRotus
Lars-Not much.Yes.The economics of litigation are what drives class action suits. The only sure winners in civil litigation are the defense attorneys who are being paid by the hour. jimjimbo
This person is not the Indianapolis Idiiot....Firstly, our buddy in Indy's real first name is Chuck. Secondly, he has a medium Southern accent. There is no mention of audio equipment/dealings in the article. The Zavodnik character is just another loser.
indyhawg
This is not the crazy guy who harasses people for craigslist sales. That guy's name is Chuck Williams. He also sends emails out with the names Barbara or Lee Williams. But the guy with the lawsuits is on another level of looniness.
CECAA850
It's a shame that there's no room for common sense in our legal system.

RX8
Judge Judy would have a field day with this guy. SHE should be the special assigned judge and it should be on TV.

I believe you mean't to say it was reviewed before it was litigated.
