tristar
I'm just asking for someone's opinion on the value of two brand new 1970s La Scalas still in their original shipping boxes. I'm undecided whether to sell them and need some guidance. I picked them up at the factory in Hope Arkansas about 40 years ago and they've been kept in storage since then. I believe the cabinets are unfinished birch. Edited June 26, 2016 by tristar

Schu
Get good pictures and inspect the units and they will sell. Perhaps even a slight premium, but not astronomical. Mint condition pieces are not overly rarified...they come up for sale every now and again. Functionality is not that super critical because anything on these speakers can be fixed or augmented. tristar
They've been kept in an indoor closet at room temperature. Aside from a few scuffs from closet clutter, the shipping boxes are still intact. Assuming all is well, I'm just wondering what a likely price range would be. I know how subjective this is and how a motivated buyer or seller can skew things. Only looking for an estimate. Thanks.
Matthews
WOW, I would sure like to see those babies !!! That is a difficult set to estimate. 40 years old, "new in box" - holy cow
jimjimbo
Would really help to post your approximate location as well. Values can easily vary based on areas of the country. And, yes, agree with others that it would certainly be worthwhile to pull them from the boxes (carefully...), and snap a bunch of photos, of tops, sides, fronts, crossovers, rear labels, etc. All of these will fit into the price determination. richieb
NOS LaScalla's - that's different. That's right when I bought my first new pair - gawd 40 years!!
muel
Have you considered USING them?
jason str
The last thing i would do is open a pair of factory sealed speakers if the plan was to sell them. Once opened they are no longer new in box.

I get that and you are correct. But if I was the buyer he would have to open them so I can see them... I guess if someone was buying them to just let them sit another 40 years. Speakers sitting in a sealed box are worth $0 to me but I'm curious about the story behind these.

But then, how would you know? To me, new in box means never played only taken from the box to be photographed…
jason str
The name says it all. New in box not open box.

teaman
If your plan is to sell them I would allow the presumptive buyer to open the boxes at time of pick up
ricktate
WOW that is awesome....There should be some kind of indication of the finish on outside of box along with serial #s. I like the idea of video taping the whole box opening. Serial numbers will confirm year of production. Opening them is probably good idea because bugs and mice can get inside very easy. Hard to make price est. without pictures and original date .
Woofers and Tweeters
Welcome to the forum tristar. What value do you put on them? We all really hope they're in mint shape. Although they might have a high value, someone willing to pay it is not easy. GLWS.

The Dude
I would put them on ebay with a starting bid of 1200 and see what happens. That is where the new in box never opened is going to help your sale. Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk

A typical range for the LS with AA crossovers in excellent shape would be from $950 to $1,600 depending on all the usual factors. La Scalas in good shape can fetch $1250 all day long, but most of those are a bit more recent than 1970, like late 1970's to 1990's. +++ Didn't your wife notice there was a giant pair of speakers in the closet for the last 46 years?
