Curious if your scalla's are good stand alone music transducers or do you need a sub woofer?

Everyone is quick to say you NEED a sub with LaScalas. I was quite content with no subs when I had my first pair. Could there be more bass? Sure, but I dropped the mids down about 3db on my LaScalas, which meant the bass seemed louder/more balanced. Absolutely delightful to listen to for extended periods, without feeling the midrange was causing a migraine. I usually listened at around 75-90db, with the higher output when I was doing other stuff in the house. YMMV...

Thanks and i will keep that in mind but looking local to save on shipping gives me more money to spend on the speakers. I am very familiar with the Volti speakers, They were just at an audio show here in Rockville MD. He does great work I remember when his prices doubled. If I am not mistaken he did offer them without sub for around 11,000.00$ now around 20,000.00. Great looking speakers.

I use that technique all the time to tone down the harsh mids on my Cornwall3's and it is very effective. Since i use a Bryston bdp and not CD's I remaster all my music myself through Adobe Audition and convert to 96K files. But will the Scalla give me a more robust bass than a Belle?

I thought this was a good deal but the seller wants $1500.00 to pack and ship them at that cost I could buy a local used pair of B&W 800 series speakers :-)

For that shipping price, you could get a one way plane ticket to Little Rock, rent a van, and drive them back.  Only a two day drive if booking it.  Offer him less.

The Belle is a great speaker, especially for the type of music you listed. Be patient, there will be a decent pair come up near you. For the price of the ones you listed (plus the shipping) you would be overpaying IMO. I have two pair of Belles and a pair of La Scalas. All of them perform beautifully. One pair is full Volti upgrades, the other is upgraded with new xover and tweeter from Bob Crites. The La Scalas have mostly leftover parts from the Belles. I enjoy listening to all of them. As for being bass shy, I would disagree. The bass from these models is fantastic - quick/hard hitting, plenty for jazz. They do roll off a little short if you were listening to pipe organ music or using for HT. Then a sub would be recommended.

Although I suggested being patient, the sooner you get them the quicker you get to start enjoying them.

My Belle, in my room, has a small peak at 60 Hz, then drops rapidly.

Placement in a corner might increase bass even more.

IMO, for some Jazz, it would be fine without a subwoofer.  For orchestral music or organ, it needs a sub.

That's good to know information since my musical taste are contemporary jazz and jazz fusion the Belle seems to be a great choice and affordable.

The Belle's exceeded my expectations with regards to jazz. This is what I mainly listen too. As for bass that's very music dependent and have found it's very adequate for me. If I had to give a grade on the bass I'd give it a solid B.Throw on a good jazz trio with cello mixed in, a glass of port and call it a night. Sweet music from a pair of great speakers.
