Donovan
I just purchased a used pair of KG 4.5's for my main speakers. Now, looking for a pair of rear surrounds. I need something small and light for my wall mount (pref under 10 lbs). I'm assuming the KG .5 would be a great timbre matched option since it was in the same line (however, the tweeters look like typical soft domes). I found a great deal on a pair of newer R-14M's (plus they are around 8 lbs). Anybody know if these would be a close timbre match for the 4.5's? On the KG .5's I see a screw in the middle, is that for mounting? Thanks. Edited July 18, 2016 by Donovan

Whether that difference matters or is apparent to you, in your room (as a surround)... Only you know? I've got a KG 2.5 & 1.5 setup in my back living room and either of those will be a better match to your KG4.5's. You didn't mention what center channel you have, but the KG2.5 would work really well in that regard. Personally I think the KG.5 is just too small and I'd use a KG1.5 (or larger) for the surrounds... Unless you're really limited to the small size/weight of the KG.5. Put a decent sub in with the KG's and cross it at 80Hz or higher and you'll have a nice setup capable of filling up a room. Donovan
Thanks, I think you are right, the R14's are out. I hear you about the 1.5, I'll think about those. It will be the 1.5 or .5 Regarding the center channel, I'm looking for a good condition KG 2.5 model. A local guy here has a KG 2.2V on craigslist at a good price. I'm tempted, but I know it wasn't built to exactly go with the KG .5 series. But maybe it would be close enough? Another local guy has a near mint KLF C7 for 3x the price of the 2.2V and I realize the C7 gets great reviews but again not sure on it's match with my KG 4.5's (and it's really big and would barely fit under my TV and not sure I could even angle it correctly). The other one I've contemplated is the KV-3 model. Thoughts on these (other than the obvious benefit of the KG 2.5 model)? By the way, can you lay down any KG 2.5 model on its side as a center channel? Edited July 19, 2016 by Donovan
mustang guy
I use a 2.5 between two 4.2's. No timbre problem in that direction. If the price ir right, nab that 2.2

If the price ir right, nab that 2.2 For $15 more and assume same condition would you choose the KV-3 over the 2.2V? I realize that the 2.2v's go a bit deeper, but wondering which will be closest timbre-wise. Edited July 19, 2016 by Donovan

twk123
I used to have my KG 5.5s as mains for my HT and I had some KSB 1.1s as surrounds and they did a great job. They have tractrix horns as well and i never noticed any sort of Timbre mismatch. They are pretty small too.

By the way, can you lay down any KG 2.5 model on its side as a center channel? The 2.2 and 2.5 are essentially identical speakers... Dimensions, power handling, frequency response are the same. They both use the exact same tweeter. And though the woofers in the 2.5 have a different model number, my guess is they are so close as to be indistinguishable. And I can't tell the difference between the 2.2's and 2.5's that I have. The one real difference is the 2.2 uses a metal edged grill that fits in between the veneer and the front baffle... While the 2.5 has a plastic framed grill, with pegs, that fit in to rubber grommets on the front baffle. The KLF C7 is the match to the KLF 10/20/30 Legend series. It is a highly regarded center and will work (and it sounds great). But it will sound different compared to the KG's. You'd have to decide what works for you, and whether it's size/price is worth it. I've never heard a KV-3 so I can't really say. The difference between the KG 2.2V and the KG2. 2 is that it was video shielded so it could be used on or near the old tube TV's, without affecting the color. So unless you plan on putting it on top or near an old tube TV, any KG would work, with no ill effects on current LCD TV's. And yes you can lay the KG's over on their side with no problems. Here are some links to the speakers in question... Unfortunately their specs are no listed on the Klipsch website. https://web.archive.org/web/20111127152626/http://www.klipsch.com/kg-2-2 https://web.archive.org/web/20111127152631/http://www.klipsch.com/kg-2-5 https://web.archive.org/web/20111127041350/http://www.klipsch.com/klf-c7
