Have to part ways with my Forte II's...RB-81 II's next?

Recommended Posts

My space is way too small for my Forte II's so I'm selling them. Thoughts on the RB-81's as a replacement?

Apples and oranges. You'll miss the Fortes.

Yeah I know. My house is just too small for them. My room is only 10' wide so I have hardly any room to pull them off the wall. I'd like to hold them until I buy a house but I'm willing to part ways.

I'd go for RP-160m's over the RB-81's.

Yeah?

Yup, the new horn on the RP series is a huge improvement. And, although the 160m has a smaller 6.5" woofer, the cabinet is deeper and bass extension is just as good as the RB-81.

Also, I personally prefer rear-ported cabinets. They always sound better to me.

Aside from the 81 being a bit more efficient, I can't think of a single category of sound where the 81 wins.

The RB-81's are a fine bookshelf speaker but there is just no way it can in any way shape or form replace a Forte II. I'd say go for the Palladium P-17b if you can swing it, Klipsch has them for 50% off right now and they are really great speakers. Otherwise I'd say look at the Heresy line or Tangent models that are either sealed or front ported if the passives are what's hanging you up for placement. No replacement for displacement, except for turbo's but that's an entirely different topic! Good luck!

Definitely out of my price range right now but that's the amount I'm willing to spend when I finally buy my first home.

thanks for the info! Will definitely take a look at these. A co-worker of mine can get me a pair of the low end R-15M for $130 brand new. I could pair them with my R-10SW and call it a day. That should tide me over for now...
