Just got back on this idea of trying one and decided to order, and thought I might just ask here in case someone has one laying around.

There only $65 new but if someone has one they want to get rid of, why not ask first.

This is the one I was going to order

Karsoncookie , I would use it just as you said, between a consumer DAC and a pro Ev-dx38. It seems the voltage mismatch is whats holding me back from that last little bit of volume from the Crown's.

The DAC I'm using is a Emotiva Xda1, it has XLR outputs so it's all XLR's to the Dx and then to the amps, but I'm still losing that voltage difference. I plan on using XLR to RCA cables which I have already to connect the cleanbox between the DAC and Dx so I get the jump in voltage.

Coytee I know how things can hide themselves sometimes :) It's not a big deal, I'm just getting back to this, I put it off for a while.

We went to Kevin's house in Lafayette for a few days as he installed his new 1802 sub and when I got home I tried listening and felt I needed more power to get a better comparison with the 100 Db were listening to in his mancave. I know the sub difference would be huge but he has Jubs and I have the mwm's and I was hoping to compare the differences. Now Kevin has bigger amps but there should be no reason I couldn't get a good 100 Db with these baby crowns, well I feel I should anyway considering the efficiency of the speakers.

That 1802 is amazing, it replaced two KP-684's, 4 18" subs replaced by one 18", it wasn't close, but the 1802 is horn loaded.

Your right, trying to decide what to do, I was thinking I might also use the mini-phone jack input the pro has. I was thinking I could plug in an I-pad and use it's volume or some of the other volume controls on the Dx or even the amps if needed ? But your right it does do the voltage matching and RCA-XLR conversion.

ART........"it has two RCA jack inputs and a stereo mini-phone jack input feeding two XLR male jacks."

I was thinking this because like Spotify, you have to subscribe to it for the app to work on the Tv or BR player, except on mobile devices or I-pads where it's free. I use this out in the bar but have no connection inside for it since I got away from the AVR as a preamp.

If I didn't want that I would bid, I almost did, not even sure that connection would work out well on the pro anyway but if it did it would be handy to use the I-pod for music also.

But Thank you for looking, Karson my want to jump on this one ?

Dtel,

No offense but that is a jury rig at best.  Obviously, the Emotiva unit is not right for pro equipment even though it has XLRs.  I'm a little surprised at that actually.

I have a Benchmark DAC-1 USB that has XLRs and RCAs and drives pro or home equipment directly and has a USB input in addition to coax and toslink.  It will sound a lot better than an Emotiva unit and a clean box.  I tried a clean box in the past and this is not what you want.  More noise.  The real fix is compatible equipment.

No one seems to want this beautiful DAC and it is like brand new.  It would be a perfect solution to your issue.  Let me know if you are interested.  The price will be right.

Sum ting wong. The XDA 1 should be able to drive the inputs of the Crown amps or DX -38 into clipping. The XDA-1 has a serious design flaw IMO that when you turn down the volume it adjusts the signal output level by truncating bits. Therefore IMO you should always run the volume all the way up and put an attenuator of some type further downstream.

I have read that DAC is very good but I really couldn't do it right now, to many things going on, but I appreciate the offer. And of course no offense taken, if it weren't for you and JC I wouldn't be in this position now, which I would be perfectly happy not changing at all.

Oh your K-69 drivers are doing great, and your mwm cabinets are also doing great as "measurement donors" and a outdoor setup when I want more than the Heresy's in the bar.

Thank you

Probably so but the DAC goes into the Ev-XDA first than to the D-75's, this is probably where the voltage problem is.

I knew about the XDA-1 truncating bits when I got it but with the amps each having volume controls i can keep the dac in the top few percent of the volume knob, but still everything wide open i would be lucky to get 100 Db and that's not with all sources some only get to around 80. I really hardly ever use the higher volume but would like to have it.

I got the XDA-1 when they came out with the second version from someone online switching to the newer model, it was right at $100 and it still had a couple of years on the warranty so I thought I would try it at that price. The difference was so big compared to using the pre-outs on a AVR I had to keep it, big difference, i will never go that route again.
