KG4 or KG4.2?

I have the option to buy either a set of KG4 or KG4.2 speakers. Other than the KG4 being somewhat wider, and the KG4.2 being somewhat narrower, are there any other attributes that make one more desirable than the other? Both are priced more or less the same, about $300.

I've never heard the KG 4.2 and only briefly listened to the KG 4 ages ago. But I've always wanted a pair of the KG 4's... Just something about the way they look with the dual 8" drivers up front. And they sound pretty good as well.

My guess is that the 4.2, with the Tractrix horn (compared to the exponential horn in the 4) may sound a bit better through the midrange. But I'd still take the KG4.

Here's links to the specs for both...

I do prefer the looks of the KG4 as well, but the KG4 is almost 2" wider than the KG4.2, and unfortunately space is at a premium. I'll have to measure the wall to see if it can accommodate 32" of speakers v. 28".

Life was easier when I had a mancave.

FWIW, I intend to replace a pair of single driver 'full range' speakers that I built from a Madisound kit. They sound good, but I miss Klipsch dynamics, range, and low distortion.

From what I have heard the KG 4 sounds more like the Heritage series while the 4.2 is more the modern Klipsch sound with its Tractrix horn. What kind of music do you usually listen to?

If you ge sot the KG 4 I would recommend getting these 12'' grills for the passive woofer in the back as it is exposed and will be near impossible to replace. I would just put it over the woofer and use a couple of dabs of hot glue around the edge its not permanent but will give you some peace of mind:

I've owned both and the KG 4.2 is, IMO, the way to go.  The KG four is a bit sloppy with looser bass than the KG 4.2.  It will also definitely need a recap.  However, the tractix does make for sharper sound and was developed for home theater, so what you are running it with will have an impact on the sound.

I haven't heard 4.2 but I really like my 4s. I can't say I'd call them sloppy. They have a rear passive, and room placement is important. I have larger Klipsch also, and I like the KG4 for their big sound, reasonable size, and nice looks. I had to replace some bad woofers in the last pair I bought. Check the woofers during bass passages for any weird rattles or popping sounds under the dust cap.  I recapped mine, as well as installing Crites diaphragms. Check to make sure seals are air tight. They're a favorite of my girlfriend's.
