Marvel
OK, I couldn't find the original article with the schematic, but this will work quite well. You can make this fancy or simply wire up some resistors in some tape with some salvaged rca plugs to try it out. The resistors prevent any interaction between the two different input devices. btw, the two inputs could both be on, with only one in use and it should still work fine. I got this from an issue of Recording Engineer/Producer, and it was used as a passive line level input buss for a recording console. babadono
Bruce, I don't like that approach myself. It adds too much source impedance. A switch is a much better way to go IMHO as long as Schu doesn't want to have both sources (mix) on at the same time. Eric
Marvel
While that might be true, I have used this on several occasions and found no real issues. I agree, switching from one pre to the other would be cleaner. Bruce
Schu
Indeed... both sources would never be on at the same time. I just something simple between the two pre amps and the two lines into the monoblocks.
babadono
The simplest would be a self wired DPDT switch.
babadono
Don't know if you could even buy the switch itself cheaper than this: http://www.cnaweb.com/2-way-audio-video-3-rca-input-selector.aspx
Marvel
Eric, that looks like the first one you posted but even less expensive... I couldn't put my posted.schematic together any cheaper than that.
Schu
I have a aversion to adding something inline that might compromise the signal... cheap is not my overriding restriction as being black (as in Invisible) is.

Yes, and make sure it is made with high quality switches. You could always use the 12v trigger for a high quality relay taking one or the other out of the circuit.

Then your own self built switch is the best option i think. Get a good quality DPDT switch with GOLD contact surfaces. You do not want to use a power switching switch as they usually have SILVER contact surfaces and rely on the higher current to keep the contact clean. You will be switching low current line level signals.
