dtc
Hello, We have a question about connecting our old 1994 or 1995 speaker to oursamsung flat screen tv. Our tv has a toslink port as well as another port we are unfamiliar with. The speaker has two plugs with a plus and minus underneath them. How can we connect the speaker (KG2.5) to our tv and use it in place of the factory tv "speakers"?
willland
Dtc, Welcome to the forum. In order to achieve your goal of using the speakers with your TV, you must have some sort of preamp/amp whether it be a receiver, integrated amp, preamp/amp combo, etc. You would run the toslink cable(digital optical) from the TV to a toslink input on a receiver, etc. From the receiver you would connect speaker wire(+/-) from the left/right terminals to the left/right speakers. If someone else knows of a different way please chime in. Bill

That's the same way I was thinking. dtc, there are many different receivers/amps that would work. With the right equipment hooked up, a receiver will also allow you to listen to music, watch a DVD or Bluray, or listen to the radio if you like. Rivernuggets
By the way, the KG series is great! I have 2.5s in one of our rooms.
derrickdj1
If you have a avr with HDMI, just go HDMI from the TV to the avr and connect the speakers to the avr. The avr does not need to be expensive if budget is a concern.

If if you just so happen to own a pioneer Kuro you can simply unplug the speaker wires, remove the sound bar, then plug in your speakers of choice to the speaker outputs in the tv. CECAA850
Toslink to DAC. DAC to amp. Amp to speakers.
