MTBANDMUSICINFL
Hi. I have a chance to buy a McIntosh 1700, which I want to play with my Cornwalls. Mostly listen to vinyl records through my Technics SL-1200. I understand the McIntosh is a hybrid - tuner is tube and preamp is SS. Would it be better to get a receiver where the preamp is tube - to get better sound I understand it would be better to get the tubes. Thanks. derrickdj1
I'm trying to remeber if I owned the 1700 or 1900. I don't think the preamp is section is the major things. Of more concern is the age of the amp and if it is up to specs. These were not very expensive compare to some of the other Mc amps. You should also look into some triode/pentode integrated tube amps IMHO. I kept my tube hybird over the Mc 1700 or 1900. These older MC integrated amp did not in my opinion sound as good as most of the Mc amps that I've heard. I am sure others will share their experience and knowledge on what direction to move toward.
