Any truck enthusiasts here?

2011 F-150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost and I'm running a 93 octane tune on it. Love the truck. 80,000 miles so far. I bought it used about a year and a half ago. I hate getting in and out of cars so for me, unless something crazy happens, a truck will always be my daily driver.

I want a diesel truck, but don't tow often enough or heavy enough to warrant that. But it doesn't mean I can't dream about it!

Ya, according to everyone on my F-150 forum they all say running 93 octane is better even if your completely stock. Do you know if that's true or not? I actually just recently switched to 93 at my last fill up and to be perfectly honest I don't notice any difference really. Maybe a tiny bit smoother but nothing like what they are saying. Everyone on the forum says I'll have way more power and all this.  I am still only about a quarter way through the tank though so who knows maybe I'll see a difference.

and only those who really know something about it can say for sure, but maybe it takes more than just 1 tank to begin to 'get stuff cleaned up/out', burning out impurities & such?  IDK but seems like I've heard that over the years

Premium fuel normally contains added detergents and will allow for advanced timing hence adding a bit more horsepower, how much depends on the engine itself,  turbo pressures and injector settings.

Personally i would not bother unless the added cost of fuel does not hurt you financially.

High octane is only needed to prevent premature ignition of fuel in the combustion chamber on the compression stroke of the piston...aka "knocking".

Ford says to use 93 if you're towing but otherwise, there's not much difference in normal driving and even little difference in towing. I run 93 only because the tune I have requires it. Otherwise I'd just run 87.

The power that you can get out of these Ecoboosts is fantastic - obviously at the risk of the engine. There are a slew of guys running high 12s and 13s in the quarter mile with just a tune...on full size 4x4 trucks.

F-150 Forum is a solid place to learn a lot. I've saved a lot of money and time with some researching there. Ecoboost Forum is a secondary site to look at to also see what's going on.

For my price range and year range, no other truck manufacturer offered the full 4 door cab with a 6.5ft bed. So it made the choice pretty easy for me. So far, no regrets.
